Public talk down to 30 minutes......???? I thought it was only being shortened to 45? Of course, any decrease in the length of time in any of those indoctrinating sessions would be an improvement.

it's like someone relentlessly playing the kazoo in your ear for twenty four hours a day seven days a week. If they STOP playing the kazoo for one hour a day do you think you would even notice? You would still hear that damn kazoo in your mind!
I think it goes even further than just still hearing the kazoo in your mind. As painful and uncomfortable as its relentless playing is, if the kazoo stops playing, if they have the means, they'll find a way to acquire one themself and start playing it as they've become so accustomed to it. This would account for them hoarding literature around the house for whatever WT inspired paranoid reason if they can't make a meeting for fear that at least they are getting and reading all that spiritual vomit.
that the kid doesn't want to leave the borg & the family home because mom & dad bought me a car, no rent, new wardrobe, whatever if they will just do x,y or z for the org.
There was a conversation I'd heard between a JW fence sitter and another JW youth relative about this very thing. This youth....no skills, no education, no job, not even looking for a job, and every past job they quit when it conflicted with meeting attendance or otherwise they lost interest in doing, but as long as they go to meetings and service, no reason to pursue independence. The question was asked of them, what are they going to do when their parents are dead and the new system hasn't arrived.
These youths are in their late 20's and they'd admited that they never give that any thought.

Surely they don't think that the congregation or the WT is going to step up and assume the role of taking care of their daily needs.
And, as big and empty as my house is, regardless of their spiritual activity, my wife is on notice that I\we wont either.

All my parents do in their 60s is go to meetings and in field service.
No hobbies, no interests... Meetings and field service!
I have had this conversation at length with my wife regarding her JW activities.
I've seen her parents retire to nothing but meetings and service....now in their late 70's getting sicker and closer to death by the day. I've seen my bil retire to nothing but sitting at home in front of a TV alone all day while his wife is out doing nothing but meetings and service. I've seen my very own parents approaching retirement with no retirement benefits to speak of and nothing to look forward to but taking care of their grandkids because of one niece who can't seem to keep her legs closed now suspected of being a lesbian.
I have remarked to her that these are lifestyles I WILL NOT LEAD when I retire.
This is a conversation I plan on having, again, with her very soon as I'm working towards a goal of being able to extensively travel, meet new people, see new places, and very frequent movement when I retire and I'll not have it sidetracked by someone who's thinking that they'll be able to hold me financially hostage through community property laws and lock me into that regimen at the bottom end of my life.
If she wants to retire to nothing but strictly regimented meetings and service the course of our marriage will have to be reevaluated..

If she thinks the elders will comfort her when shes down, support her with her life goals, and be there when she needs an extra hand...then tell her maybe they will make a better husband to her.
The exact statement I made to my wife towards the beginning of my exit.
when she decided that she didn't want to work secularly anymore, my only request from her was that she'd be happy with whatever I was able to provide. I told her that I'd never weild money as a weapon towards her.
During my exit I only asked that I be given the same autonomy in exercising my conscious as I was giving her in wanting to stay a witness. When I determined that she just wasn't hearing that, I laid down the gauntlet as I wasn't interested in staying in an hostile marriage just because it would make jehovah happy or the congregation and JW's look good.
I guess she assessed the situation....her confortable lifestyle compared to some of her JW sisters who were working like slaves housecleaning and decided that a bird in the hand was more valuable than two in a bush.

Well....now that your wife has tattled to the elders and the cat is out of the bag, it's probably now as good a time as ever to quit tip-toeing around the pink elephant in the room and stand up to both her and the elders and their "star chamber" comittee. I can tell that you still think, with resignation, that you have to face and explain yourself to them when the fact of the matter is, it is not incumbent upon you to speak with them at all. If you've been lurking here for as long as you say, then surely you would agree that the only power they have over you is that in which you give them. Put your foot down and stand up to them both. If she's willing to let what they, the borg and their henchmen, come between your relationship, then it's probably time to trade-up anyway.

My son and daughter...making me proud...
by Billzfan23 inmy 9 year old son decides back in april that the memorial is going to be his last meeting at the kingdomhall.
so... he refuses to go to the meetings, and when forced to go - leaves the meeting right after the song and starts walking to my mother-in-law's house a couple of blocks away where he knows my sypathetic father-in-law (a raging catholic, not a jw) will have sympathy on him and say "nevermind, just leave him here with me when you go to the meetings from now on.
" the next week - the garbage man visits to collect the trash in front of the house - and my son had taken all of his meeting clothes, pants, suit jackets, ties, dress socks, etc... and left them all curbside for the trash man to pick up.

That is great. Celebrating obedience to the organization as a guise of obedience to God is the JW mantra. It's nice to see that he has taken his "stand" so young.

Is anyone thinking of attending the Service Meeting next week?

i don't know any jws in my city, never even seen one on the street, and have been looking for the nearest kh.
i am going to check the schedule and see when their service meeting is.
