  The growing irrelevance of the Watchtower message

  in many ways it appears as if the watchtower movement is slowing down.

  a number of changes over the last few years certainly show that the watchtower is in a period of transition.

  they have cut back on the number of magazines they print as well as lowered the cost of production by eliminating things like hard backed books.

  I was a new recruit in the late 90's and did not last one decade in the organization. The main reason was because the idealistic picture of the organization I had before I became a member dealt with the reality of what the organization was after I became a member. I went right into pioneer work but became extremely frustrated because I did not the see excitement I had as a new member within those who had been JWs for many years. Their lack of enthusiasm eventually made me give up my idealism. I can't help but wonder about how many other converts out there meet with the same disappointment I did.

  That abou mirrors my experience as well.It was soon after baptism that I'd had a couple of issues with nosy elders and the my study partner dropping me from his friendship list when he couldn't count time on me anymore that I realized what the organization was all about.

  Just this past Sunday, there was a full quarter of the audience milling about the hallways and outside of the facility. There were so many brother walking around being wholly ignored with their "please be seated" signs, they could've formed their own conga line.

  we've been best mates since we were kids, he was brought up in the ' truth ', but left a number of years ago.

  we talk about just everything.

  they told my husband they wanted to meet... tonight.... just what i want to do on a friday night... we just had a sheparding call a month ago with another elder.

  i said to my husband, "why don't they just invite the entire body over to the house?

  so hubby told them that.

  The last time I had a meeting with the elders it was presented to me by my wife as if they were coming over to talk to her. But when they hit they door, it was me they wanted to have a discussion with. My wife conveniently found other things to do in the house while they were there. They thought they were going to corner me with the story of Noah, how it was only his family that survived, and as such parallel it with themselves and how I should get back to meetings and service within the organization.....some crap they were regurgitating from their recent district convention in 2006. I made it clear to them that we could discuss the bible all day long, but that if they were there to cast veiled accusations, guilt, or probe and parallel for something "wrong" with me, that we were not "going there".

  Stand your ground. If they show up unnannounced anyway, politely excuse yourself from the room and leave them and your husband standing there with their mouths gaped open. They have no control over you.....the only control they have is what people give them. YOu don't have to answer their questions and you don't have to listen to their attempts to browbeat you on the downlow.

  When I finally walked away, my wife ran me through the wringer of emotional blackmail and guilt laden conversations to the point of me throwing up. Think that stopped her? As soon as my mouth was dry, she started right back up again. Since then, we've developed a truce. It's lasted for a good 15 years now.

  The End of Circuit Overseers

  is indeed apparently nigh as another poster predicted along with the end of the weekly bs.

  not sure when this should take place but i'm reliably informed by a family member that one of the uk's overseers was talking about it fairly recently.

  reduced to weekend visits by an outside but local elder instead.. i have no further info..

  It's "very interesting" (don't you hate that overused JW term) that they would put in place a system like this? This is classic "put the fox in charge to guard the henhouse" mentality. The WT is liability further isolating itself from the congregations, putting a system in place for them to essentially watch over each other while at the same time demanding more obedience to their authority while they continue to rake in the cash.

  according to watch tower statistics about 30000 thousand people per year left the organization.

  wow.....some of you have spent some "long in the tooth" years being a JW. I guess I didn't really "sound it down" into my heart as I was baptised in late 1990. By the middle of 1993, I was already convinced that it was all bullshit and that I'd been had. All of the changes I've seen in the last 18 years coupled with the extreme hypocritical actions of JW relatives and their idolatrous veneration of the FDS and the WT confirmed it.
