Can Men & Women Just be Friends?
by Xena inthe wt says "no"... "when harry met sally" says "no"....what say you?????
is it possible to just be friends with the opposite sex?
and how do you feel when your significant other has a "best" friend of the opposite sex?

I truly think it is possible for men and women to be friends -- I have female friends -- however , I will admit when the attractive ones are around I do find it hard not to mentally undress them -- in other words --sex is often on my mind -- I honestly wish it wasnot but if I said otherwie I would be telling lies

what was the most influential saying/person that changed you ???
by run dont walk in.
if there was one thing that affected me most was, i would have to say the time i ran into a brother (while i was still in the borg) in the downtown area.. he said "just take one year off, no meetings, no service, no assemblies, no talks, nothing, just take a break, and you will see the wathctower differently, and your mind will clear.".
at the time i just shrugged it off as a bitter jw who left, now when i look back, it was probaly the biggest thing that someone ever said to me, and he was right, 100%.. was there a saying, an occurrence or a person that just got you thinking about how ridiculous the watchtower is ??

What's The Difference Between UK & US?
by Englishman ini'm only posting this so as to get a buzz from looking forward to our trip to joy & steve's place in october.. i last went to the usa when i was 12 years old and i'm keen to know what differences to expect.
i know that their service industry is vastly superior to ours, someone told me that restaurant staff are actually helpful over there!.
umm, driving on the opposite side is going to be strange.

The vast majority of things are cheaper in the US than in the UK. The portions are larger - if you ask for a soda in the UK you have to pay a fortune and then another fortune to get a refil -- refils of soda (pop) and coffee is generally free in the US. European beer is better than domestic beer but Europena beer is not served cold -- in the US the beer is served deliciously cold as it is in Australia of course. The service in the UK sucks -- in the US it is generally quite good -- they do expect an absolute minimum of 10% tip and 12.5 -15% is closer to the norm -- otherwise have a great trip

German Bethelites at Selters have a reputation for it -- I know many other JW drunkards - true alcoholics -- many others on the edge -- derinking is still viewed as ana acceptable "sin" there have been other threads on this topic

are you guys saying that because I am a bourbon drinker, it is unlikely that I would qualify to be a District Overbeer and would have to be content to be anointed with spirit?

Getting Drunk in MODERATION
by Satanus inuntil recently, i hadn't gotten drunk in yrs, like maybe 20 yrs.
recently, i felt like doing it.
so, wanting to be balanced christian, i was just wondering how often would be optimal.

everything in moderation including moderation --so that means getting slightly drunk about 3 times per year

Rule by committee
by Euphemism inproplog recently started a thread about the scriptural basis for having a committee lead a congregation, rather than one man.
putting that question aside for a moment, however, i just wanted to talk about the practical realities of organization.. for many, the change from congregation servants to the elder arrangement was welcome.
it avoided the situation of local 'petty dictators' having absolute control over a congregation.. on the other hand, it also had its downsides.

The checks and balances system would work if all men on bodies of elders and esp the governing body were not wimps -- now I know they removed Ray Franz -but he was not a YES man -- so if the GB were not wimps they could and should remove Jaracz -- but it will not happen becasue the yare all yes men -- like on most elder bodies
