I've read The Mysterioius Stranger by Twain, but not Letters...I'll have to check this one out...TMS was a fantastic short story.

JW kids who are currently in college LOVED the convention drama!
by urbanized inhere's a transcript of a post about the 2005 godly obedience convention (which i read about on this board and seemed to highlight a drama in which a biblical story was highly distorted in order to discourage higher education) from a jw youth group on www.myspace.com.

hey everyone!

I had a few young pals as a JW yewwth that would say crap like, "Wasn't that talk AWESOME?" or "That new release is SO COOL!" No, The Velvet Undergroud is "cool", the new release is just rehashed pablum.
They reminded me (while I was still active mind you) of uber-zealous jesus freak kids. "The Lord is radical man..." etc.
Yucko.

I'm going to JW Hell, I'm going to die.....
by riotgirlpeeps ini thought this would be kind of fun to do is list some of the offenses that i have committed according to witness beliefs.
i thought it might be mildly amusing considering the lack of emphasis that any of these things are wrong according to the majority of the population.
i'll limit myself to ten.

I've made some collage art using that picture of guy in the back of the songbook who is singing with his big mouth open wide.
In my collage he is smoking a lucky strike, and white monkeys are billowing out of the end of the cigarette.

Just curious...."service, and gas money"
by riotgirlpeeps inlocally on occasion it was the common practice when "in service" to leave gas money for the driver.
i know that the individuals if savvy can get a tax credit for mileage for service (and i was once told mileage to and from public talks could also be included).
what i am curious about is do people still give the driver money for thier trouble?

I remember giving a $1.oo in the morning and another george for the afternoon to the driver.
Afternoon service in the summer ugh... So hot, so lame.

Smurf away
by damselfly inas a wee damselfly in the late 70's/early 80's i loved the smurfs!
i watched the show and had the coloring book and the little plastic figures.
then some jw kid had a nightmare, it was taken as demonism and my smurfs were taken away!

My parents decided to get rid of my smurfs as a kid too. Now I have three adorning my dashboard. An angel, a pirate, and a hobo smurf.
It's strange because a friend of mine grew up with protestant parents and they had a lot of the same 'smurf legends' regarding demonized stuffed animals, wallpaper etc...

Clearing Junk from the WT Years
by core injust binned my last papers from the wt years - been in a corner of my study for some years now but time to take another step forward and destry all the evidence of wasted years - lots of old stuff, programmes from assemblies back to the late 50's why did we keep such useless **** anyway ???
) , elders meeting notes etc and a copy of the constitution the society forced on uk congs in the late 90s - just reading it shows how in control the centre really is - also binned old wt cds - one set from 1997 never opened - that was the time we "saw the light" and never looked at a wt book/cd again - have you all got rid of the "junk" or did you hold onto it for years / still got it ?

I kept the KM on shunning and shared it with my therapist. She made copies to reference with her other ex-witness clients.
She was really surprised to see how controlling the society is around the shunning issue.

noah's ark
by kittyeatzjdubs ini watched a tv show last night on tlc.
it was talking about noah's ark and all that stuff.
the thing that stuck out in my mind and made me laugh out loud was this....they interviewed many scientist and they all said the same thing, ''there is no natural evidence that a wordly flood ever took place.''.

Trying to get people to "support" pioneers!
by LongHairGal inthis was one topic that used to make me furious!
here the bible makes it perfectly clear that back then they supported their own ministry by working.
there is also the scripture about "counting the cost" implying that one should not undertake any project without making an assessment as to whether or not they could do it.
-
Huxley
Maybe they could manufacture some of those "I support..." ribbons and sell them at the literature desk.
"We support our pioneers and their families."
Your suggested donations are appreciated. (and will be used to further the worldwide work heh heh heh...)

Saved!
by Crumpet inhas anyone else seen the movie saved!?
i watched it last night with mr c and although many aspects were extremely funny, some were so cringeworthy too!.
there's one scene where the head of the "christian jewels" gang tells all her to laugh and look like they were having a good time to try and convert the bad kids to jesus by showing how being a christian is such good fun!

I remember a few Witnesses commenting that I "never looked happy".
They would say really helpful things like, "Why don't you smile more?"
I couldn't wait to go home after the meeting, listen to the Smiths and brood in my room.
Ah the angst-ridden life of a teenaged dub.
