i think that it would be a good idea to give a copy of that picture of armageddon to any letters that you send to any politicians, legal court cases, whatever the case may be.. the picture is absolutley disgusting, and shows blatant mind control.
a copy of that in with a letter to any politician would wake them the hell up as to what kind of cult this is!

I really thought that the WTS was beyond this crap. Whether it's legal pressures or just the realities of trying to proselytize in a tolerant society, they seemed to have cleaned up their act... to have moved away from explicit fear-mongering.
And now this. As far as I can recall, even the Knowledge book, for adults, doesn't have anywhere near as graphic a picture of Armageddon.

the king james version is undoubtably the most inaccurate english new testament in common use today...the king james stands at the bottom of the list also in regard to three spurious passages selected as tests (mk 16:9-20; jn 7:53-8:11 and 1 john 5:7-8).. .
The main criticism of Wescott and Hort that I've seen, other than the ad hominem attacks, is that by comparing all manuscripts and not taking any single one as authoritative, they were denying the possibility that any particular manuscript tradition (e.g. the textus receptus) was in fact a correct transmission.
As far as I can see, this is fundamentally a theological argument; the only reason to believe that one manuscript tradition was preserved correctly and the others were not is to assume some sort of supernaturally influence preservation. Unless one accepts that theological presupposition as their fundamental assumption, any objections to Wescott and Hort's methodology would be essentially minor refinements.

i understand the gentile times / seven times thing that gives you 2520 years ( 7 x 360).
i understand the day for a year calculation.. but the part i don't get is why only 360 days for a year and not 365 or 365.25, you can't calculate only 360 days a year through history because it would throw everything off.. hey maybe the watchtower will get "new light" on this and change it to 365 , it would give them an extra 35 years to work with ????.
The regular old Jewish year, since it was 12 lunar months, had a variable number of days, somewhat under 360. But so as not to fall behind the sun, they added an extra month every once in a while. So the average was still 365.
Hebrews didn't seem to be terribly concerned about mathematical precision, however (think about pi=3), so they may have commonly regarded a year to be 360 days.

I first found this site a couple of years ago, when it had the tagline "be careful not to stumble your brothers", or something like that. It also seemed to be a bit more witnessy... there was a forum for discussing field service, or something like that, if memory serves. So I was kinda annoyed (I was a loyal dub at the time); it did seem deceptive to me.
When I came back to it sometime later, and saw that the tagline about stumbling had been replaced with "everyone welcome", everything seemed okay to me. Anyone who knows the English language should be able to figure out that "everyone welcome" means that membership is not restricted to dubs!

They use Revelation 12:6,14, where "a time and times and half a time" is paralleled to 1260 days (that's 3.5 * 360).

Personally, I'm uncomfortable with the notion of criticizing a non-profit for making money. I always hated it when the WTS did it to the Catholic Church... they would talk about the large real estate holdings of the Church, as application of the scripture about Babylon the Great living in luxury. I would think about the fact that most of those real estate holdings were churches that people used to worship, or parochial schools where children were taught, etc. A church with a lot of members needs a lot of real estate! Same goes for the witnesses.
You can argue that the GB care more about the size of the org and keeping donations flowing than about their members and the truth; and you may very well be right. But in this case, the WTS isn't making the money off its members.
The WTS got lucky... it bought cheap real estate decades ago, and the real estate appreciated in value over time. The developers are also benefitting... they're getting a choice piece of real estate that they'll be able to resell. No one's being hurt. So what's to complain about?
