Tammy, as I've thought about your dreams, it occurs to me that they might be "letting go" dreams. I have had similar dreams when I've managed to break a bad habit and am not worried about it anymore. Then I'll have the dreams about being caught again in the bad habit. On the other hand, your dreams might be pointing out to you that you are still accepting responsibility in areas where you have no responsibility and where you can do nothing but upset yourself. Either way, I hope such dreams can point you to happier waking hours! But if not, I would find myself a therapist to help get through being stuck. Best wishes!

Feeling Powerless and Vulnerable
by Swan inthe past several nights i have had very disturbing dreams that, while not the nightmares i used to have, still leave me feeling powerless and vulnerable.
i feel like the other shoe will drop soon and i feel totally unprepared while just waiting for it to happen.. in one dream i witness my niece as a little girl back when she was first starting grade school.
since i have never known my nieces and nephews as teenagers, i tend to dream of them as they were when they were children.

A picture is really worth a thousand words
by observador inmany people here have described how interesting this summer's conventions were.
well, i got this picture - which requires no explanation - from a faithful to the letter jdub but apparently with a good sense of humor.
now, if this picture made its way to an watchtower magazine, what would the caption be?

Well, there are a lot of people in that picture that I would have trouble characterizing as elderly and there is one young man--looks early teens--in the upper left. Certainly not much of a showing of the young.

Do you believe Christ returned invisibly ? Did Russell make everything up ?
by run dont walk inin january, 1876, when he was 23 years old, russell received a copy of the herald of the morning, an adventist magazine published by nelson h. barbour of rochester, new york.
one of the distinguishing features of barbour's group at that time was their belief that christ returned invisibly in 1874, and this concept presented in the herald captured russell's attention.
it meant that this adventist splinter group had not remained defeated, as others had, when christ failed to appear in 1874 as adventist leaders had predicted; somehow this small group had managed to hold onto the date by affirming that the lord had indeed returned at the appointed time, only invisibly.

The trouble is, considering what went on in the 20th century, it is hard to see how His return has been for the good.

Apostate Logical Fallacies -- Part 1
by logansrun inlet me start out by saying that i would like nothing better than to see the society totally disappear one day and lose its controlling grip upon its members.
this forum is probably one of the most frequented sites for doubting jws and lurkers so i think it is important to be as skilled at combating the witnesses as is possible.
not every argument made against someone or something is a good one.

The more I learn about the Watchtower Society, the more impressed I am by all of you who come across as kind and loving people who are living good lives. It isn't, to me, that people generalize from one rotten elder to the whole organization, but rather the weight of story after story of the abuse of power, the coldness, the fear--especially the fear--that constructs a picture of an incredibly toxic organization. It is within the context of this extremely controlling organization that individual JWs perpetrate the cruelties recounted here. While it is certainly true that the organization can't control each and every behavior of each and every JW, it is also certainly true that they have created a climate in which cruelty and craziness flourish. If the concern is that people only tell the bad stories and not the good, perhaps it would be useful to start a topic encouraging people to relate the good experiences. If there are a significant number, that might go a long way in achieving the balance some feel is not here.

Disappointed not disfellowshipped.
by scotsman inmy mum recently grassed me in to the elders.
to be precise.
she told him that she knew i was being immoral, i think she said that i had confessed it to her.

I think she must be giddy with relief that god's spirit directed organization isn't telling her that you are going to be annihilated or that she's going to have to shun you for the rest of your lives. I can see how she might miss the fact that she betrayed you and the consequences could have been quite different--in fact, could still be quite different if the elders do a "what were we thinking" about face. Please accept my sympathy and spare some for your poor misguided mother.

Logic Lures Them in, Emotions Keep them In
by jgnat inthe wtbts was able to get a foothold years ago because they offered a radical departure from traditional christianity.
they offered up an alternative view of god and the afterlife, some prophetic math, and a good kick in the pants to mainline churches.
the catholic (universal) church deserved that kick, caught asleep on the job.

It is a little harsh to accuse the r & f of being lazy bible students since WTS forbids "independent" reading of the bible precisely because anyone who reads the bible without the "aids to understanding" provided by the borg will "fall out of the truth."

But isn't that the pattern? To spread rumors about the person? Rumors without any basis in fact--intended merely to justify the disfellowshipping/disassociating?
