Well, it seems all of a piece. Education is necessary, but only for those who can be trusted with it and only in areas needed by the WTS.

W.T January 1, 2006
by Diogenes injust reading through the january 1st w.t 2006. the first study article (starting on page 20) "how firm is your trust in god?
" has another dig at higher education.. paragraph 7.
"anyone who does not trust firmly in jehovah might think differently.the majority of humans view material wealth as a major key to security.hence, parents have encouraged their offspring to invest much of their young adulthood in higher education, hoping that it will prepare them for well-paying careers.sadly some christian families have found the cost of such an investment to be very high, as their children have lost spiritual focus and turned to pursuing materialistic goals".

It occurs to me that their message is less anti-education as it is anti-success and anti-personal responsibility. Their argument against education seems to be based on the idea (if you can call it that) the only reason for education is career success. So their argument is an argument for perpetual and abject poverty.

Unitarian Jihad
by misspeaches inhttp://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/chronicle/archive/2005/04/08/ddg27bcflg1.dtl
it was sent to me at the chronicle via an anonymous spam remailer.
i have no idea whether other news organizations have received this communique, and, if so, why they have not chosen to print it.

The author is Jon Carroll who writes a daily column in the San Francisco Chronicle. While I think he would be alarmed to find himself referred to as a "humorist," this article from the Unitarian Universalist site gives some background:

This doesn't really belong here, but close enough . . . . Yesterday, when I was cleaning up my garden, I found two JW tracts folded together and tucked under the alysum. I wondered if they were something children were given to hand out (and a child found a good place to ditch a couple on his way up the alley?) I've never seen these before and I don't think I've heard any of you talk about them--little trifold piece, maybe 4 X 11.5--immediately recognizable as JW by the illustrations/photos. Are they new or have they always been part of the "preaching work."

Should I go to the Docs?
by Jordan inok, earlier i was sitting here on the pc, when my mum comes in and says it looks like i've got a lump behind my ear, i go and have a look, and she's right, there's a lump one side, but not behind my other ear, so i'm pretty sure it's not part of my skull.
now i didn't notice this before.
but after i was told about it, i swear it's starting to hurt... is it worth getting checked out by the doc, or is it one of those things you can leave and it'll go away?

I'm curious about Barbara's research for the Proclaimer's book. Did she find things that didn't match the official history? If so, did it bother her?
