It must feel very good to know you will never be expected to do that again! Good for you!

Sad news from Maui
by Makena1 inwe went to our favorite beach, met up with some of our local friends.
we don't have much in the way of details - but heard some devasting news that ari (well known to seattle area exjw's and i am sure by many on the board) killed himself sometime over last weekend.
he was so excited about moving to maui, and starting a new life here.

So, so sad. I remember that before he left for Hawaii he'd had some kind of reconciliation with, I thought, both his daughters. He left for Hawaii with such hope and happiness (at least I thought). Well, the best we can hope for is peace for him. I suspect this will be devastating for his younger daughter.

This may be my last postÂ…so goodbye and thanks
by seven006 ini never thought i would do one of those infamous goodbye i cant take this board anymore posts where the person shows up again a week later and looks like an idiot.
when i had enough of this board and needed a little break i would just quietly leave for a few months and hopefully nobody noticed.
that is not the case this time.

It feels really strange--sort of like, good bye and thanks for all the fish! I really hope you can remain part of this little community and that we can find ways to help ease your way.

They have started to shun my JW wife!
by jwfacts inmy poor wife has been quite stressed knowing what to do with her life.
she has never been intellectually interested enough to study whether the wts is the truth, just went because it seemed the best way of life and her family and friends are in it.
when i stopped going she did not know what to do wanting to keep both me and the congregation happy, and becamed fairly irregular at meetings and field service.

Two classes of Christians after all?
by Narkissos infirst, as i am just back online, happy new year to everyone!
totally unrelated to the above (or maybe not), it just occurred to me that the unscriptural wt doctrine of "two classes of christians" might have some faint pars veritatis after all as far as the nt is concerned.. of course it is not about "anointed or not," "two hopes," "heaven vs. earth".. yet several segments of early christianity did seem to allow for a huge difference in levels of requirement, vocation, or fate among believers.
on the one hand, the high and hard way of the apostles, disciples, missionaries, evangelists, martyrs; on the other hand, the minimal requirement of the rest.

I've just finished Bart Ehrman's _Misquoting Jesus_ "The Story Behind Who Changed the Bible and Why" which is fascinating and very readable. Of course, knowing very little about the bible or its history, I accept everything he says as truth. So I'm interested if any of you have read it and your assessment of his arguments.

THE NEWS IS BIGGER THAN DATELINE, BBC, CBC, ETC.
by AndersonsInfo inif i told you that something bigger is on the horizon than dateline, bbc, cbc, sunday (australia), and all other tv programs which exposed the sexual child abuse cover-up by watchtower in 2002-2003, would you believe me?
have i ever misled you?
i'll answer that--no!

While I would dearly love to see the Watch Tower dissolved, there are so many destructive high control religions out there that I wonder if bringing down the Watch Tower will really make much difference in the over all scheme of things. But we certainly can hope!

I'm in the midst of Bart Ehrman's "Misquoting Jesus; the story behind who changed the Bible and why" which you may also find of interest.
BTW, thanks, leolala for the link to your earlier thread--I'd read it the first time around and enjoyed it as much the second time!
