I think gadget's reminder about their hitting accepting new light without question and staying away from everything not JW-related is particularly chilling.

Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes
by Simon in(the david bowie song in case you're wondering).
there seems to be a lot of talk and speculation about the changes that are coming at the next district conventions.
there have certainly been quite a few articles and talks (esp.

What religion are you now?
by Michalea ini've struggled with wanting to be 'something' mostly probably to fill that hole that was left and to try and belong somewhere, anywhere really.
so i've tried penecostal, presbyterian, united churches but they all seem fake.
i always compared everything to the jw's, and didn't even realize it.

I think the search is not so much for right answers but for community. Has anyone investigated the Society of Friends (Quakers) or The Ethical Society? (Not suggesting, asking!)

But haven't the district conventions taken place? Has there been any "new light?"

DC notes
by kgfreeperson inmaybe it is coincidence, but i notice we've only had reports on the saturday sessions of this year's dc.
is that only because it is so much work to write these things up (i understand!
) or because people generally only go to one day?

Maybe it is coincidence, but I notice we've only had reports on the Saturday sessions of this year's DC. Is that only because it is so much work to write these things up (I understand!) or because people generally only go to one day? Or maybe because Saturday was the most fun-filled day? My ulterior motive: I'd really like to know what went on Friday and Sunday!

Fixations
by onacruse inwhen i went to college several years ago, we had (as i suspect is usually the case) a college-sponsored newspaper; articles written by the students, for the students.. there was one writer who absolutely had it in for the president of the college; the pres couldn't even sneeze without this writer making a big issue about it in next week's paper.
i happened to have a personal relationship with the president; he was a former jesuit, and we had several interesting conversations about theology, etc.
one thing he told me was that he just couldn't understand why this writer had such a fixation: they had never even met!.

For me, fixations are distractions allowing me to ignore the real issues I should be dealing with. I do not believe this is true only for me!

When I was growing up I so envied only children. Now I am grateful every day for my sister and brother! So, I rejoice with you for taking a first step toward building a satisfying relationship with your sister.

Is it OK for men to cry?
by JH inis it wrong for a man to cry when he feels pain, either physical or emotional pain.
we all know that women cry when they become emotional, but for a man, is it appropriate or not appropriate to cry.
is it seen as weakness for a man to cry?
-

Perhaps a more interesting question is why is it "OK" for men to rage, but not to cry.

South East England - love of the greater number cooling off
by truthseeker inhi everyone, in the congregation i grew up in, it was very cold and unloving.
circuit overseers would come and go, they would give counsel and nothing changed.
at one time even the do came at the same time as the co and gave counsel to 'widen out'.

It sounds almost as if one of the effects of all the WTS's fear-mongering is that JWs are getting more and more afraid of associating with anyone--even each other--as they might end up talking to someone who they should be shunned, or they might form a bond with someone they might have to give up. This is both very sad and very strange.
