ammunity
by BR25 inas you all know by now i am a jw backer, and in the first week on here i have gone back and forth with people.
alot of people on here have a problem with all the rules.
in my opinion i dont think they were too hard to follow and most of it was stuff that you shouldnt be doing anyways.

Eh, whatever I'll admit I thought alot of the rules were stupid and that's why I left. I think ones regarding personal appearance are stupid. I'm in one of the largest companies in the world, but I can still have my ears pieces, tattoos, and long hair. I work with older folks who don't look at me any differently than anyone else. I still get promoted to management positions, in fact every job interview I've been on with long hair I've gotten the job. Appearances don't mean a thing.
However since getting out of the witnesses for that reason and started living my life I realized there's alot more to it than that. I can't be a witness because I don't believe in shunning. My philosophy in life comes from Abraham Lincoln "When I do good I feel good, when I do bad, I feel bad". Shunning another person because they sinned would make me feel bad, so I won't do it. If I had to argue the point now I'd say "I'd rather have a repentant sinner in my midst than an unrepentant liar".
I can't agree with the thought there should be two witnesses to disfellowship someone, somethings are just too harsh of a crime to wait for two witnesses. My main argument stems there off of child molestation, check out silent lambs for more on that.
I can't tell people that this is the last generation on Earth because of more earthquakes, pestilence, wars and all that jazz, because it's not true. There aren't more earthquakes or natural disasters. There were times on Earth where there were more wars, and food shortages. I'd be lying.
I don't believe that everyone who isn't a witness will be destroyed at armageddon. I've known too many horrible witnesses and too many good worldly people. In fact I'm a more giving and charitable person now that I'm out of the witnesses.
There's a few other issues like the idea of a faithful and discreet slave that are spirit directed. The qualifications for the FDS if I remember correctly were in one of the 1990 Watchtowers where they say in 1919 (apparently that's when Jesus was looking for an orginization to represent him, like he hadn't done that previously, just all of a sudden in 1919 he felt the need to) that the qualifications is that they needed to be free from spiritism and they needed to be neutral. Which at that time they were selling Warbonds and they were distributing a book called Angels and Women. So even according to THEIR OWN standards they're not the faithful and discreet slave.
There's alot of stuff like that which I found out that I simply can't go back now because I know I wouldn't be able to just push all that back because SOME of the principles are right. And even then, the right principles are skewed in some warped way.

I would just say that you guys can't afford a normal gym membership because of the costs of signing up (it can be up to $600 a piece), say that you didn't think there would be anything wrong with it because there are many christian orginizations that JW's work with (Red Cross would be an example) and you felt this would be no different. If they tell you that you have to stop going to the YMCA just tell them that your doctor told you that you need to start a regimen of exercise. Since it would effect your health you'd have to be a member of a gym. You can ask them to find a gym that's cheaper than the YMCA, if they find one great you have a cheaper gym. If they don't find you a cheaper gym (which is probably impossible) then they don't have anyone to blame but themselves right?

Evolution and "Missing Link" theory
by Mile 0 innot long ago, i caught the tale end of a show where this biologist believes that both apes and humans evolved from a common ancestor.
therefor there is no so-called "missing link".
has anyone heard about this theory?.

Human evolution is really fascinating I think. I do find it funny that throughout time there's been stories of miniature races of people fighting large dragons or whatnot as fantasy and it's every population has stories like this. I guess it has to be grounded in fact from our past, humans usually don't have that good of an imagination.

The Laziest Watchtower Publication of All
by metatron innow, you might wonder about sheer laziness in watchtower leadership - given that the bookstudy.
got stuck with the climax book.
or you might wonder about cut n' paste articles in the watchtower.

Remember the saying "food at the proper time", I guess no one in the witnesses is hungry anymore.
Why couldn't all that happen when I was a witness, having less to study and having to just spout out a word for word presentation instead of having to come up with one on my own and having to practice it all the time would've been a much easier childhood.

Remember the slide presentations
by Omegaman inhow many of you remember how special the meetings were when we found out they were going to show slides instead of a public talk.
when i was a kid i remember how excited i was..........i still remember some of the slides.
an old one from the 70's where a blind girl keeps asking her dad when she will be able to see this and that and the father would say " in the new system my dear".

I remember when I was either 4 or 5 the first slide presentation that I can remember occuring. Right near my old congregation they had this little water slide park open up (just three slides) and I was so excited to get to the hall thinking they were going to have waterslides there for everyone to go on. I was so disappointed when we got there and it was a bunch of stupid pictures.

What were your favourite topics in the field service?
by JH inoh, i loved it when there was an earthquake someplace around the world, or famine or war just to make a juicy introduction... .
bad economic news also made a good conversation..

does where we were going on break count?
I sucked at going door to door, my presentation was "Hi we're Jehovah's Witnesses" and wait for them to say not-interested. If that didn't work I would add "we're going around your neighborhood talking with people about the bible". That usually did the trick.

Well I knew one witness who was pretty much a hippie really free-spirited. The one time I met her mate I expected to meet some whacked out crazy hippie guy, but he was like mr. no-personality, really uptight. I figured of the 2, he would be the JW.

What was your favourite day of the week, when you were an active JW

Saturdays I would visit my non-JW dad. So that would definetly be my favorite day. We would rent a movie usually, get take-out food, he'd end up taking a nap, I'd draw some pictures or play with all the Star Wars toys he got me (why Star Wars, I have no idea, but there were TONS of Star Wars stuff there).
