Help! Is The Memorial Tonight??

you'd think i'd know, but is the memorial tonight?

my son (he's 12) usually goes with my jw mom on the weekend, but she asked to get him today since he's out of school on easter break.

grr, i am thinking now she's doing this for the memorial.

So, I wonder if this makes it ok for a JW to go to college to become a mental health professional? And I wonder what kind of advice a so-called JW mental health professional might give?

seeing this is the 5th anniversary of jwd, i was curious as to how many who still post here, were dyed in the wool jws, but later sucumbed to "the truth about the truth" .

were an active/semi-active jw, and this site and others were enough to convince you that your doubts had substance.

I first stumbled on the site when I was an active JW in Sept 2002 and my first reaction was something like:

OMG!!!!!! DEEEEEEEEEEMMMMMUUUUUNNNNNZZZZZZZZ!!!!!!!

I immediately closed my browser and resumed playing solitaire. It didn't help - the demunz had already invaded my feeble mind and I was doomed to be an apostate?.

Four months later I was inactive, and I finally joined the site in May 2003, and I DA'd in June. Marriage went down the toilet 6 months later.

It's been a helluva ride.

Matt 24: 45 ?Who really is the faithful and discreet slave whom his master appointed over his domestics, to give them their food at the proper time? 46 Happy is that slave if his master on arriving finds him doing so. 47 Truly I say to YOU , He will appoint him over all his belongings.

First of all, I don't believe this is prophetic. But even if it were, it's in the form of a question. It does not positively identify the Watchtower or anyone else, nor does it guarantee that this "food" will be dispensed by anyone at any time. Nor does it say what this "food" is.

The only thing the Watchtower has dispensed is lies at the most inopportune times.

we're busy as ever and there are lots of plans for the future.

there will be some changes in the coming week or so which i will announce later.. in the meantime, happy birthday to us

what if it was all a dream?

you wake up one morning and see that the last few years of your life is nothing more than a vivid dream.

you check a desk calander and realise that it's your baptism date.

your mom is calling asking you to wake up and get ready for the assembly...... .

What do you do? and more importantly, what, if anything, would you do differently? How would it cahnge your life?

First of all I'd probably throw out all my suits and call up the fiance I had dumped for the sake of the truth?. We'd spend the day in every sexual configuration imaginable. Then I'd plan my education, and start de-witnessing to my mother.

A very disarming question you can ask jw's as an "unbelieving mate"

my wife got dunked, so i am an "unbelieving mate" (ubm).

however that name does offend me.

i do believe in god, and i am deeply grateful for christ's sacrifice.

They will always answer you in a tactful? way, but they will lie to you about what they really think of you. My father was an unbelieving mate? and the JWs were always pleasant to his face, but behind his back they spoke abusively of him. One day at the hall an elder made the mistake of calling my father a pig, not realizing I overheard him. I immediately confronted him in front of the people he was speaking to, asked him why he didn't have the balls to say this to my fathers face rather than opening his yap to a bunch of women. I also told him if it happened again I'd be hauling his ass out to the parking lot for a good beating.

I was never counselled for that, but my father was never invited to congregation get-togethers? after that. My mother had to go to them alone.

They'll be polite as long as they view you as a potential convert. Once they realize you'll never convert you'll be lucky if they give you the time of day.

Morning worship comment from Bethel

i received this email from a friend of a friend:.

'comments made by brother lett at morning worship today.. the comments were about the work we have of bearing witness of the truth.

" again, the angels make note of it.. we knock at the fifth house and again no one is home.

Also, we are fulfilling our responsibility to bear witness to others, we are proving that Satan the Devil is a liar and we are helping the angels determine the condition of people's hearts.

In what way do people prove Satan a liar? As I recall, Satan's challenge to God was with regard to JOB, not anyone else. Hasn't the society simply expanded this scripture to include others? It's just another manipulation tactic.

Also, I don't recall any scriptural support for the statement that "angels can read hearts".

Neighbor: "I'm so glad you left the JW organization"

so i was out working in my yard the other day.

i've met a lot of my neighbors that i didn't know recently, because as i'm working in the yard, they stop by to chat as they're walking the dog, etc.

i'm really getting to know the neighborhood.

Several neighbors have expressed to me how glad they are that the book study isn't here anymore. They also pumped me for information they could use if JWs ever come to their doors again.
