My grandsons put ketchup on everything. So, one evening at supper, when they put ketchup on their plates, I thought I'd be funny and stirred some mustard into my mashed potatoes. They said yuck..but it was so good, I now do it all the time. I also love peanut butter - especially on toast..when it melts into all the nooks and crannies... as a kid I enjoyed peanut butter and mayonnaise sandwiches... spaghetti with a bit of melted butter and sprinkled with parmesan cheese...

Things YOU eat, that other people think is weird.
by misanthropic inthis mornings events have got me thinking about things.
i love peanut butter, not the sweet kind but i like the old fashioned peanut butter, usually laura scudder's with no sugar or preservatives - it just tastes better imo.
i put it on everything including pancakes which are really good with peanut butter and maple syrup.

Yes.... my then spouse was a MS. We began having some problems, and he approached the elders for a counselling session with the two of us. His request was ignored. He asked again, and was again ignored. His third request fell on deaf ears. We eventually split up and were divorced.

Were you a loud singer?
by HockeyMullet ini don't know why, but i was just thinking of this guy in my hall that sang so loud that it was embarassing to just be there.
he sounded like the love child of kermit the frog and miss piggy.
i remember trying to mimick his voice during one song and getting counseled by one of the bros because i had a few of younger guys laughing.

This reminded me of an incident: One particular sister had a strong voice and lots of time would close her eyes while singing. It was during the last song. She was holding her baby and looking over to the person next to her who was holding the songbook, singing away, eyes closed. The baby had his head turned. She shoved the bottle into her baby's ear instead of his mouth. He jumped and started to yelp, milk running down his neck. I saw the whole thing and had tears streaming, trying not to laugh.

Growing up, we had a black lab named Tammy. This was in the late 1950's before the breed got really popular. When we walked her, people would go into the street to get away from her. In the neighborhood, people knew us as "the girls with the big black dog". She was 12 years old when put to sleep and I remember it was the first time I'd ever seen my dad cry. We still talk about her, even though she's been gone for nearly 38 years.
A few years after Tammy we got another black lab and named her Cricket. My sister and I took her to dog training classes. The dog would just sit there throughout the class and not do anything. We would work with her at home and she did OK, just didn't do anything in class week after week. We kept going, though. The last class was held like an obedience dog show. My sister and I showed up, dog in tow. Others in the class laughed and said we were wasting our time. Well, we came home with the first place trophy and blue ribbon. The rest of the class was totally PO'd
In December of 1992 I walked into a pet store just to look around and ended up walking out with a lab mix puppy.(actually a lab-german shepard-rottweiler mix) She came from a litter of 16. I named her Mariah (not for the singer, but from the song "and they call the wind Mariah") I swear, she's not a dog... she's a person in a little furry suit. Yes, she's now 14 years old. Mariah lived in the city all her life and once in a while would break loose and run. She ended up in puppy pound a few times.. I had to bail her out. The funny thing was, she would run to my parents' house which was a few blocks away from where I lived. She just wanted to visit them.
Oone time, my dad was sick and scheduled to have major surgery. A few months before the surgery, he had a tube put in his stomach for feeding. Dad asked me not to bring Mariah over for a visit because she would sometimes jump up on him and he didn't want the tube ripped out. So, I didn't bring her over. The week before the surgery in June, my dad went in for pre-op tests and my brother stayed at the house with Mariah. When we got back, I put Mariah on a leash and brought her over to my dad, thinking that being on a leash, she wouldn't jump up on him. Dad jumped out of his chair and said, "get that dog away from me!" then ran into the den, slamming the door shut. I felt terrible, and went into the kitchen where Mom was and told her what happened, thinking that I got Dad really upset. A few minutes later, Dad walked into the kitchen wearing the biggest, heaviest winter coat he had; it was zipped all the way up (remember, this was in June) and said to me, "OK, let her go!!" Mariah was jus so happy to finally see Dad. Funny thing was, when I brought Mariah by for a visit after Dad was home from the hospital, she wouldn't jump on him. She would just sit as close as she could next to his chair and Dad would scratch her ears. And they would sit side by side for hours.
Unfortunately, I no longer have her with me...I moved out of state in 2001 and Mariah was too old to make such a drastic change. My parents cared for her until my Dad passed away in 2005 and Mom moved out of the house. A friend now has her.

I took a course on thanatology (study of death and dying). The professor once asked the class if they had ever witnessed a death, and that right after the final breath, a person could see the spirit leave. He described it as almost a holy moment. I was with my dad when he passed and tried to see this happen and couldn't. But my dad had been on life support for a week or so, and I think his spirit was already gone by the time we had to turn the machine off. However, my mother-in-law, as a young girl, witnessed the death of a family member and saw the spirit leave. She never forget it.

If You've Faded, Do You Still Consider Yourself a Dub?
by brunnhilde ini've been thinking about this a lot, because i've chosen to fade and i would never refer to myself as a jdub, but i've read postings from others who do.
i would have written a letter a year ago but i've got older parents who are upset enough about me just not attending.
on another thread someone is also leaving and they were advised to tell the jc to do whatever, to not acknowledge that they have any authority.

I told someone once that I was raised a JW. She looked at me, astounded, and then said, "You're forgiven!" I don't consider myself one, and seldom admit to having any association with them.

I live in northern NY (Adirondack Park) and we have been clobbered with snow up here. I went out in the yard, looked around at the snow piled up and could only think of two things: it boggles the mind that there are no two flakes alike and that at least it doesn't make any noise when it falls.

I will never forget the time after working all day, getting off at 5PM, rushing home, making supper for spouse and self, then rushing off to the MS &Service meeting. After the meeting, an elder asked how I was doing. I said I was tired, it had been a long day. He told me to quit my job so I wouldn't be so tired for the meetings. I ended up quitting the hall and kept the job... and retired from that job in 2001 after 30 years.
