My three sisters and I were rarely invited to any get-togethers. We would find out about them after the fact by others who would tell us all the details and wonder why we weren't there. When I got to my teens I would go roller skating almost every Saturday night at the local rink. I begged my mom not to tell anyone about it, but one night I was seen there. After that, some would drop off their much younger kids for me to babysit while skating. The kids were very badly behaved. I finally stopped going.

What's the most stupid comment a JW told you?
by JH ini remember when i was new in the "troof", i was walking in a mall and a jw window washer saw me, and asked, "what are you doing here"?.
yeah, he had a good reason to be at the mall, cause he was washing windows, but i had no business there.... i guess he thought that i was being seduced by material stuff.... and i was stupid enough, not to tell him, mind your own business fu**er....

A MS who told me that "all married women should wear girdles" . I was a good dub and never said what was on the tip of my tongue at the time: why is a married man like you looking at other women like that?
A CO who told a six-year old she was going to die at Armageddon if she couldn't sit still during the meetings.
An elder's wife discussing who had a better chance at being resurrected: President Kennedy or Martin Luther King (she said JFK because MLK was a reverend)

cancer again
by Mulan inmany of you know that my cousin and best friend, sharon, died in september 2001 at age 59, after a 3 year battle with breast cancer.. now, another of our cousins (she is 56, the same age sharon was at her diagnosis) has breast cancer on both sides.
she had surgery a week ago, and just learned she has to have more.
it's still good news.

In Feb of 2005 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Although fairly aggressive, it was caught early and I underwent two surgeries and radiation and went on Tamoxifen. In Feb of 2006 a second cancer was found on the other side. This one was small; surgery removed it and no further treatment was done. My oncologist determined that I had cancer on both sides at the same time and the one on my left side was so small the mammogram didn't pick it up for a year. There is no history of breast cancer in my family at all. I just had a mammogram done and it was normal. Even so, I wonder what is going on inside that the mammogram hasn't seen yet. I just don't feel comfortable in my skin any more.

Sometimes living in a small town has it's perks ......
by troubled mind ini complain sometimes that it is annoying living in this small town of 6,000 because i am always running into (not over) my former witness "friends".
but there are perks too : yesterday my microwave stopped working , so i called the local downtown maytag dealer .
he promises to make a house call later in the afternoon to check it over .

Here in upstate NY the towns are fairly large landwise. Within the borders are several villages. So, even though the town I live in has a population of a little more than 1600, that is divided among 4 villages. The village I live in is probably the largest in the town (pop.820), yet on the 2000 it was classified as a frontier because we are so isolated.. The nearest McDonald's is about 45 miles down the road. We have the smallest hospital in the entire state of NY. At one point last winter all 8 beds were filled. The nearest mall is more than 60 miles away. We're about an hour from the Canadian border. Yet, I love it up here; I'm never bored. I moved up here five years ago from a city of 98,000.

Tonsillectomies?
by BlackSwan of Memphis inmy oldest is having her tonsils and adenoids out on monday.
the doctor will also be maybe putting tubes in her ears if sees that theres a problem, as he will be doing some work in her ears during the same surgery.. i've read all the information they've given us, doesn't seem like a huge deal.. i'm wondering though how many have either had their tonsils out as children and remember the experience or how many have had children who have the surgery.. i would just like to know from others what i might be able to expect.. any input?.

I had my tonsils and adenoids removed when I was 16. They were extremely swollen; to the point of blocking my throat almost entirely. My problem was that I had a bleeding problem and several doctors refused to do it. When a surgeon was found, he wanted a hand-written letter signed by my parents and by the PO stating that if anything happened to me he would not be responsible. My clotting time was finally reduced to 10 minutes (normal is 1-3 minutes). The morning of the surgery my gurney was wheeled just outside the opering room. The surgeon came out, leaned over me and said there was a good chance I would never wake up. I really thought I wasn't going to make it. When I did wake up, I croaked "I'm alive!" The nurse must have thought I was nuts... the surgeon came in later and told me that after the removal, he sewed up the back of my throat to reduce the chance of hemorrhaging.

JW teenage pregnancies...............did you know of any ?
by vitty ini was in the borg for 20 of my adult years and i must say that in all that time i only knew of one sister who got pregnant before she was married.
she was given a public reproof and was never treated badly.. considering a lot of the teenagers did most things they shouldnt have and many did get reproved for immorality, i am surprised that many didnt get pregnant.
especially as they would of likely not have been taking contraception.. was this common in you kh or area?.

When I was in my early teens my older sister, who had left home already got pregnant and was disfellowshipped. After that, whenever I just talked to any young man at the hall the PO would pull me aside and tell me to watch my step because I would end up just my sister. Geez....
