Mecurious, what I would do depends on what it is that's getting spread round. I take it that its something that people could not have found out from other sources. How many people knew that you were doing it at the time at the time? How many people have you told about it? Could they have inadvertantly said something that let it slip? Is it something that people could have guessed, ie, if you and your girlfriend got reproved at the same time 99% of the time it is because of fornication so people would guess. And apparently most committees are about that anyway so people jump to conclusions. If you can PROVE that none of these could have happened, and it only could have been found out by an elder blabbing, I suggest the same as what Shamus done. The CO will bowl them out for doing something so lessen the congregations faith in them. If you approach another elder, they'll just try to bury it, and if you write to the society then they'll just get a generic letter warning them to keep quiet, no real rebuke but having you in their sights for next time...

Who has Experienced This?
by Mecurious? inokay, i would like to get some feedback on people who have been reproved and later realized that everyone knew why you were reproved.
and, people who have shared a personal problem in confidence with an elder(s), only to have it spread like wildfire throughout the congregation.
please also detail what you did about it.

Those "secret files" the elders kept on each & every one of us?
by FreeofGuilt ini have been out of the cult jw religion for 3 yrs now, but i need some help/suggestions, please.
i am not disfellowshipped, but i simply became "inactive" after i left home & got married... i was "publicly reproved" once, & was wondering about those "secret files" they have kept on me.
if you have ever been in the "back room" then you know what i am talking about.

How did the people testing the law fail?
Is it because they said they were destroyed, because for any other reason the courts could serve an injunction to them to produce the documents. In the UK we have a small claims court where minor matters can be resolved fairly cheaply, possibly this could be used. If the records are not produced, the courts can then follow up on this themselves.
If they say the records are destroyed, it might be interesting at reinstating committee. If they consult any records from the origonal committee(Which would be neccesary to see if your repentant now), then you have ptoof that they have lied in court, a serious criminal offence.
Anybody here got legal experience and able to comment on this?

I was quite fortunate when this happened to me, because tha people who'd heard about it thought that it was pretty shady that it had been spread around, and came and told me about it, and who it came from. It was an elder in another hall who was talking about it, so I went to his meeting one night instead of my own to confront him. After the meeting I talked to him out the back (Along with a few other elders he asked along with us), and told him that I wasn't happy. He couldn't see the problem, because what he was saying to people was true, and basically told me to get lost. When I got home, I got a phone call from my PO, saying the elder had made a complaint to him about me, and could I go and discuss it with them. They started out very negative to me, but listened to what I had to say, and agreed the elder was wrong to have been telling everyone and that they would be phoning his PO to discuss it with him! It was a result at the time, but elders have long memories and I'm DF'd now.

In England(Don't know about in the US) we have a law giving any person the right to see, or recieve copies of any information that other people hold about them. Has anyone ever tried using this to read their file? If they don't let you see it, you take them to court. If they claim that the records have been destroyed, report them to the bethel for not following instructions in the congregation.

Hi Blondie,
Do you do this every week? What did you think of the 27/4/03 study, "How does jehovah view the shortcomings of his faithful servants?", and the 4/5/03 study, "What have you learned about the way Jehovah reveals new light?"
If you want newer magazines I can get them, but shpping may be a problem. Would probably be easier to scan and email the study articles if you want them.

Who has written to the WTS about all the scandals?
by berylblue inmy only jw friend, to whom i wrote four months ago, wrote back and said, in part, "you are accusing the wts and have condemned the brothers without hearing their side.
that is not fair.
you need to write to the society and give them a chance to explain".. has anyone done that re: un, silent lambs, etc.

Maybe you should try using a blue envelope for letters in the future. At least it will go straight to the service desk and read(Hopefully) instead of being put straight in the bin.

I'd avoid the big cities, I like open spaces. I'd have to start at the space centre in florida, preferably catching a shuttle launch. Then I'd go to the west coast and tour on a motorbike. I'd love to see the lava stacks in the desert too. I'd much rather be the 51st state then part of a federal europe. The european rulers don't seem to like Britain that much...

What you thinking of getting? I've got a celtic symbol on my arm/shoulder. I got it 2 or 3 years ago, just before moving hall and nobody ever said a word about it, not even on beach or when you could see it through my shirt. If someone can tell me how to, I'll post a pic.

Have you ever had a "part" in an assembly?
by doodle-v inwell guys, i've been part of this discussion group for about two weeks and i must say it's been really fun!
i always look forward to reading everyone's thoughts on so many different topics.. i grew up in the troof, so needless to say it was a major part of my life.
my whole childhood was engulfed in meetings, field service, book study, bible study, watchtower study.

Yeah, but how many of any of the parts in the assembly do you remember afterwards?

The reference you mean is 1 corinthians 4:9,
"For it seems to me that God has put us the apostles last on exhibition as men appointed to death, because we have become a theatrical spectacle* to the world, and to angels, and to men."
* "Theatrical spectacle" Lit., "a theatre." Gr., the'a-tron; Lat., spec-ta'cu-lum.
I've got a watchtower2001 I could copy, but would need some advice on the legality of the copywrite, would it endanger the site if something like that was organised here?
