how are they going to deny that their new “converts” are nothing more than born-in kids of witnesses or already “captive” family and friends?
Good point. Hadn't thought about that. Will be interesting to see what the numbers turn out to be.
when the “year book” is published online next year, and the number of new baptisms is roughly the same as it always is, how are they going to deny that their new “converts” are nothing more than born-in kids of witnesses or already “captive” family and friends?.
the “billions” of hours of service are at best pointless and ineffective and at worse often fabricated.. what say you?.

not a new subject, i think i have posted on this before, as well as others.
but, i came across a british museum video (on youtube) in which a bm curator tells of his discovery of a cuneiform tablet outlining the assyrian story of the flood and the (round) ark.. the bm curator was dr irving finkel, deputy keeper of middle east at the british museum, he explains that one day a member of the public brought in an old family heirloom.
it all started with a fairly normal event for a museum: a member of the public bringing in an old family heirloom - a cuneiform tablet from around 1750 bc which proved to be one in a million.. finkel proceeded to decipher this tablet.
amazing insights into wts doctrine and practice from a former bethelite who worked with ray franz on the aid book.. https://youtu.be/mz6mjycc7ag.
Thanks. Just downloaded to watch later. I'm really interested in that time period in JW history and the events at headquarters. I think that period sort of set the tone and changed the rules for a lot that followed.
so i received an email from one of the used-to-be jw friends that now pretty much ignore me.
it was haranguing me about "getting right with gee-ho'-vuh", and how imperative it was to "return to the organization".
it continued on with the worn out argument that "the faithful and discreet slave know what we must do in order to be safe and to live, as gee-ho'-vuh brightens the light to them.

revdip2000, I think I agree with you. I think if he had been more self-controlled or forced by others to be more controlled, he would have won.
I wouldn't have wanted him to be so controlled, though, that he ended up being a smooth-talking, phony, baby-kisser like most politicians (like Biden & Obama). I found a lot of his candor to be refreshing, and I think it appealed to many. I loved when he pointed to cameras of certain networks and said "see, there they are - fake news" - right to their faces. I loved the names he had for people like "Crooked Hillary", "Sleepy Joe", "Pocahontas".
Biden, for example, to me, is phony and corrupt, but he tries to be smooth and polished. Trump was just out with it, and, again, I found that to be refreshing.
It's kind of like the situation I saw with elders in JW congregations. There were many who tried to be polished, smooth company men, but, every once in a blue moon, I'd run across one who was honest and would candidly say something negative about the org or a publication or a CO, etc. I found that to be refreshing.
However, back to what you wrote, I see your point and at this point, tend to agree with you.
i once left a copy with the kids of my return visit.
the next time i came she returned it to me saying it was discusting and not something kids should be reading.
i was shocked since i learnt to read using this book.
jazzmanica91: The Bible itself is a disgustingly violent book
I've thought about that many times. I remember back when the org counseled against watching violence on TV and in movies and even about watching violence on the news. I was thinking "damn, what about reading the Bible, then? It has a lot of killing including running swords through pregnant women, etc. It has maiming, castrating, mutilating, torturing, gouging out eyes, hamstringing horses, slaughtering animals, etc."
I'm still open to the possibility that there's good reason for it, but, nevertheless, there's a lot of violence.

alanv: Over here in the UK we are totally disgusted at the scenes we saw a week ago of the violence and rebellion by Trump worshipers.
There is so much wrong with that. You seem to imply disgust at all Trump supporters. Even if all those responsible for the violence were Trump supporters, they are just a teeny-tiny fraction of such and are not representative of the majority. Are you disgusted at all black people because of the terrible things some of them do? Are you disgusted at all white people because of the terrible things some of them do? If not, then why do you and people like you seem to imply disgust at all Trump supporters as if the violence were a Trump supporter issue, when only a tiny percentage of Trump supporters were involved?
To be accurate, you should have written something like "Over here in the UK, we are totally disgusted at the scenes we saw a week ago of the violence and rebellion by a relatively small group of people which probably included some Trump worshipers, whom we realize are not representative of all Trump supporters. We realize most Trump supporters are disgusted by the scenes also."
Your words seem condescending to me. What’s the point of the “over here in the UK we”? Are you over there in the UK so high above us that you condescend to address us and presume to chastise us? Are we over here in the U.S. supposed to be hang our heads because some of you over there in the UK are disgusted by what a tiny group of people did in the U.S.? We, over here in the U.S., could say we say we are disgusted by all the scenes of violence we saw for years in Northern Ireland. Sure, that’s a small sample of the population, but aren’t you implying guilt for a very large group based on what a very small group did?
menrov: Why are supporters of Trump not honest to themselves and admit that Trump (at times) did not act as a president for all Americans.
First, I don't exactly know what you mean by “did not act as a president for all Americans”? I think he did act as president for all Americans in that he acted in the best interests of the country as a whole. That doesn’t mean catering to the specific interests of every individual or group – especially those who want leftist policy which many of us think will weaken and bring down the U.S. Anyway, I don’t want him acting as president for all who are in the U.S. – especially not illegal immigrants, those who want socialism or policy that smacks of such, etc.
Second, a lot of us on this site have acknowledged a number of times that Trump is flawed and that we don’t idolize him; it’s his policies (or at least a lot, if not most, of them) that we like.
not sure if this is the correct area.
but these music notes are in music we have heard for years.
i have never listened to the new wt music.
Learn something new every day; never heard of such a thing. That was interesting. However, I have no idea about whether it's used in JW music.
on reddit, a pimo elder talked about the co special meeting with the co about all what’s important, tight pants!
omg we have a pandemic, some have lost their jobs, people are depressed, but let’s stop the brothers from wearing tight pants.
also, metro style haircuts.
Eff them!!!!! With all the horror in the world.... this is what they're worried about???
In the last few years, I saw video of cats crammed in cages in an Asian market. They are beaten to the point that they are barely conscious and then boiled alive because some people think doing it that way makes them taste better. I saw video (also in Asia) of raccoons (or animals that look like raccoons) being beaten with bamboo canes until they stagger and then being hung upside down by their feet and skinned alive.
I have a difficult time going through life knowing such goes on, and relative to such as that, I don't give a shit what kind of pants people wear or how they cut their hair. If JWs truly represent the god of the Bible and this is how he thinks, then I want no part of worshipping him. This would be a textbook case on his part of straining gnats (worrying about how people dress), while at the same time, swallowing camels (allowing horrific suffering).
my son, only child, age 19, college sophomore, just got his first used car.
most importantly, he learned the fun and exhilarating process of buying a used car from a dealer.
he had saved some money, but everything around the $5000 range was basically a shit box on wheels.
Forget the kids; I need the info you posted. I'm actually looking now for a small pickup or Ford Transit Connect van in the $10,000 and under range. The info you posted was helpful to me. I don't have much experience buying vehicles because I was a poor pioneer for so long and only bought a couple of extremely cheap, but mechanically good, used cars over the years and drove them for years until they just couldn't go anymore.
dubstepped, I did the same. Always paid cash. I'm 60ish and have never had a car loan. About 15 years ago, I was desperate for a car. Found one in a neighboring state from a private seller. It was a Ford Escort wagon with 199,000 miles on it. I know that's a lot, but I was desperate, and she only wanted $1500 for it. She was a schoolteacher, and she told me the miles were mostly highway miles accrued during visits to her mother. She didn't have to tell me this, but she said that for some strange reason it just sometimes wouldn't start. She said she took it to a mechanic, but he couldn't figure it out. That made me really trust her. Also, I knew that it had to be something simple.
I asked her whether she would take any less, and she said her lowest was $1400. I wrote her a check (and she trusted it). I drove that car for years. It reached over 300,000 miles with no major issues. It started having valve problems which could have been repaired, but I figured that with the age and mileage, it would be better to just let it rest. Also, the lady was right about its not starting sometimes. The engine would turn over fine, but it just wouldn't fire up. You could roll it a couple of feet sometimes and that would make it start. I thought it must have been some kind of sensor. Sure enough, my mechanic found a bad sensor and replaced it, and I never had that problem again. That was an honest woman.
I'm about to have to get my first car loan, though, because I don't have the cash now for one. That's one reason why GreatTeacher's post was helpful to me.
OFF TOPIC: GreatTeacher, you just posted on another thread something about living near Maryland or something like that. For some reason, I always thought you were across the pond with the Brits that post on here. You're in the U.S.????
