This is my first post

i wanted to express appreciation to the members of this forum.

there are resources here that are deep.

like we heard from the stage, "what is your depth and breadth of bible knowledge?

Welcome... Thank you so much for your courage and bravery in standing up for the victims. So glad you were not intimidated and did the right thing standing up for victims of abuse. Are they going to appeal this unfavorable decision? Or take it to civil court?

Please let us know if they decide to appeal and if we can do anything to help (write letters to judges or DA, or if close enough and welcomed by victims to come sit behind them in court. Seen cases in TV and real life where Cong is sitting behind pedophile and victims sitting by themselves. ).

I am still myself considered an active jw. But am not regular at meetings and service to me is just informally at sharing my love and belief for God. (No distributing w&a lol) But I stand behind any victims of abuse no matter the consequences to myself (that may come soon as well).. It is simply the right thing to do.

My brother died yesterday

"albert" was 55 years old, and the fifth-born of seven children.

i am the second oldest and babysat him often while he was growing up --- and while i was still at home.. yesterday, albert was out taking his usual morning stroll around his small town, when he collapsed on the sidewalk.

the doctors said it was a heart attack.

So sorry for your loss. Grief is a normal thing even for ones who have a hope to see their loved ones again. Thoughts and prayers are with you during this hard time..b

Home schooled witness kids

sorry if i'm stepping on any toes here, but i haven't seen anything positive about home-schooling...at all.

the notion is that parents are taking advantage of the formative years to inculcate more worthwhile values while protecting their kids from worldly influences.

they end up with lazy, socially inept, illiterate duds who haven't a clue.

I was homeschooled, however my parents decision to do this was not to protect us from association with other children at public school, but because they had known others in our area that had been molested by school staff. My parents said as long as we were too young to defend ourselves then they wanted us close to them, but once we got to an age where we would not be easily intimidated then if we chose to go to public school we could. I decided to go to a vocational school offered in my area during my Jr. & Sr. years.

I was amazed at how uneducated some of these high school students were. I always strived to succeed and did very well. At first some of my classmates ridiculed me, but later said "Now I understand you. You don't do well just to show us up, you are doing it for yourself and so you feel proud and to show that homeschooling can be successful. "

However even during elementary years my parents gave us a structured curriculum. We were not homeschooled so that we could go be pioneers. In fact I RARELY went in FS on a school day.

And what irritates me is when many JW's say they are homeschooling their children but do nothing at all.

I believe that JW or non-JW homeschooling will work for some and not for others. It all depends on the kid and how they apply themselves. There are many high school students who graduate from public school illiterate.

So I believe it is a case by case thing.

Waiting for the JWs to come to my door...

i read about the new tract distribution and thought to myself how should i react, when they come to my door.

finally today, after finishing my morning coffee, i got an idea!

i'll take the tract, look at it, look at them, and with a nice smile rip it up and hand it back to them with :"have a great day!

I read my dad your post, our whole family feels like me. He saw something on facebook that wasn't talking about religion but, he asked me to share it with you .

We are proud of our country, but ashamed of our goverment"

He feels the same way.

"He is proud of his religion but ashamed of its organization."

So you are not alone in the way you feel.

My dad has a good friend who brought more then 70 people in the truth but is now an atheist. We still love that person and dont try to convert them back.

We wish you success in finding happiness and restoring your faith.

Hi Hortenzie,

First I want to say I am so sorry you were robbed of so much happiness, and I hope you can find happiness again.

But I do want to say I agree with lots of the others on here that most people are trapped and blinded themselves.

I am actually still a JW, (although if ever cornered and asked my thoughts and beliefs I prob would get DF). I don't believe the same as everyone else. I REFUSE to practise shunning or judging others for their beliefs even if they are different then mine.

You said in your post they made you lose faith in GOD . No human or org. should be able to do that. Maybe lose faith that something is God's Org.

I hope you are able to heal be happy and regain faith. But you have to ask your self will doing tearing up the tract make you happy? And as far as it upseting them, it might. But more then likely it will have them talking about how the end is close, and as the telephone game goes, it might keep getting embellished on and turn into a JW urban legend.

But maybe it will give you closure or a feeling a vengence, but will it make you happy?

Do you google about someone before you date him or her?

i do not understand why many people will not google to see if he/she has a mugshot, criminal record, etc......

Most definitely.. Especially after the shady characters I have dated in the past... Who were supposed good JW boys. .. With the horror stories I have its a wonder I even want to date at all. And I have to admit the thought of dating is kinda scary.

i really don't like people disparaging active jws on this site by calling them stupid, idiots, morons and that, and making out like they're willing puppets to the gb or cruel at heart.

or describing them like they're puke or as having no desire to learn or listen.. to you, all these things may be true.

we all have opinions and are entitled to them.

Thank you for your post. I guess I would be considered an active JW, but I feel we should each be able to have our own beliefs about things. I hate the practice of shunning and do not follow this "rule" at all. I govern myself by 2 rules 1. Love God 2. Love your nieghbor as your self. So I agree with you that no one should call another person stupid, or an idiot or other mean names.

I personally still believe in God, but if someone did not I would not call them names or belittle them. I think we should all be able to share our opinions and beliefs without fear of judgement. But sadly I have other friends who are XJWs that I even met on this site, but because of people attacking or belittling them rarely come to this site anymore.

I hope it can be more of a trend of allowing others to believe what they like and if you do share your thoughts or personal beliefs to do so without bullying others.

John 3:16 - "believe" or "exercise faith?" Same thing?

i recently asked my jw mother, if she believed that jesus died for her sins.

(john 3:16).

she agreed, but then added the jw party line, "you have to exercise faith also.

I don't know if the translation of John 3:16 is perfectly accurate.

But one thought I have on this is at James 2:19, that the Demons believe and shudder. So just because you beleive in something, doesn't mean you support it or accept it.
