  imho, the very embodiment of everything stupid and excessive in american culture.

  to extrapolate on winston churchill's famous comment about democracy, capitalism is the worst economic system there is - except for all the others.

  I think too many people put too much emphasis on what things people have. Whether it be Hummers (yuck) or Beamers or little old yugos. Who cares.

  Yes, rich people are different than you and I.

  I don't know. I think I'm a pretty nice old coot. We're pretty well off, some would call us rich. When we retire (soon) we won't ever have to work again. But we're not jerks and understand that some people don''t have what we have or can't do some of the things we do now. That doesn't make them less than us, they just don't have $. If they're nice people who cares what they have.

  Won't give away my profession since we're still around the dubs, just not active. But we never just had dub friends, rich poor whatever. We don't care.

  Things Learned Along the Way

  i have collected sayings, homilies, whatever along the way that crystallize something bigger i learned.

  i will post a few every day.

  if you have one, please share it.. if you lie down with dogs, you'll get up with fleas.. to belittle is to be little.. somewhere, i got the idea if i just took care of others, i would be taken care of.. blondie

  The English Aversion To Root Beer.

  when we were kids, our mothers would treat our cuts and grazes with an antiseptic cream called germoline.

  it's still widely used today.. to mask the antiseptic smell, thereby making the product more acceptable to kids, the manufacturers would mix in sassafras to the finished product.

  sassafras has a very distinctive smell.. root beer also contains sassafras, which duly imparts it's distinctive aroma to the drinker.. so, to your average brit anyway, drinking root beer is akin to swallowing antiseptic cream, because it smells just the same!.

  So perhaps the solution for those across the pond is lees root and more beer. Perhaps a dark and tan. Yum!

  Are you really who you think you are?

  i recently enjoyed reading another post on an ex-jw board about how our past experiences as witnesses have shaped our lives and made us who we are.

  there is obvious truth to the effect that our past experiences do effect how we see our selves now, but i think many people who leave the borg are still enslaved to the idea that they are the same person they were then.

  i disagree and think things are a little more complex than that.

  Why are you here?

  proplog2 left a post the other day saying that they are "cured" and therefore leaving the site.. this got me to wondering...... why are we here?.

  i tend to think that most of us are "cured", i think many of us have put the jw experience behind us.. personally, i am here for several reasons.. 1. to keep updated on what is going on within the organization, as it interests me.

  i have several friends and my son still involved, and i need to know the latest.. 2. i like many of the people here.

  Sorry don't like those ugly things. If I wanted to drive a tank I'd buy one complete with machine gun turrets and half-track treads. I drive an old fogy Town Car for my fat tushie, the wifey has a Benz cause she thinks she needs to keep up with the hoty toytis, and the boys both have Volvos which they love more than sex. Yeah I don't believe it either. We do have a truck for those little weekend honey do projects, but it's just a truck, a lowly F-150

  ok, maybe i have too much time on my hands, and my imagination runs wild.

  maybe i've read too many robert ludlum novels, and i can see a conspiracy in just about anything.

  in my congregation the elders were very rigid about the most stupid things.

  Drop a nice letter in the mail to the Bethel i your area. Use someone elses name, maybe one of thode elders in your cong who is really a jerk. Outline all the problems with this MS but don't reveal any info that would show them who you really are. Then stand back and watch the fur fly while all those elders figure how to write back to Bethel. Oh what fun!
