this was back in the late 80s.. .
i was out of the borg then, still.....when i had the opportunity to travel; i had an excellent paying job and was afforded ample time off, i went to the philippines for an extended period of time.. .

today i got off work a few minutes early and went to pay a bill then go to the grocery store.
but, as i was on my way to the store, there was an older man standing under a tree trying to catch my attention by waving a rolled up bill(s) and motioning for me to roll down my window.
just can't do it indiscriminately

I live in the downtown area. Three winters ago, one of the local 'untouchables' was looking very ill. My partner (at the time) and I brought him home for two weeks until he was well. He has been a great friend. Although a street person, he is olde and wise in many ways. When i got ditched a year later, he was a big support to me and remains in many ways one of the truest friends I have.

i love her very much and miss her terribly.
she joined the jw's late in life after years of my mom coaxing her to join.

My grandfather studied for a couple months back in the 40's, that was it. He never partook of the jw (ie, never went to kh, door-to-door). Although he always said he felt they were probably right. I always figured he just wanted his personal freedom to drink, smoke, etc. When he died, the family (90% jw) had a jw funeral for him. I can't tell you about the talk cause i didn't attend.
and yes, it is wrong, he had no say in the matter.

when my grandfather died a few years ago, i went to the visitation at the funeral home. although he was not a jw, they decided to have a jw funeral since almost all of the family is in the cult. Everyone there shunned me, except for my parents and my 'favorite' aunt. she came up to me and gave me a big hug and told me how much she missed me. I told her that it was her choice since I was only a phone call away. the emotion was too much for me, so i ended up leaving after that encounter.
I applaud your courage in standing up and going to the funeral to honour your grandmother and 'translate' for your relatives who are not jw. Will think of you on Monday
glad to say my internet connection is still up, my parents phoned to disconnect it on monday but its still going.. i havent officially dad yet but it will happen within the next few weeks.
i will also be sending the da letter to all my immediate family.
as soon as they announce my da my parents will be chucking me out but are helping me get sorted for my flat.

to answer yr question - relief at finally being able to be myself and happiness that i no longer had to attend meetings/go in field service.

Reading others' posts has been very helpful for me. Shared experiences, attitudes, just knowing I am not alone. It was a big step for me to post on this board, lots of fear. But it has been worth it. Strength & humour just radiates from this place!
