Of course I said, well they were taught that all their lives. JW's teach you to be intolerant of anyone who doesn't think, feel, believe what you do. She responded with "well they don't teach that anymore." "at the service meeting we just had a talk about not giving worldy people the perception that we think they're wrong". Okay, so I say "yeah, don't give the perception that you think that" - right? She had to think for a minute and then said, "well....no..." But then she agreed that yes, even though they think that way they shouldn't give the "impression" that they think that way. I think a light bulb went on. She changed the subject :)

Idiosyncrasies Of Jehovah's Witnesses
by minimus injw's are a peculiar bunch.
certain things are characteristic of the witnesses.
jw's are known for some weird, unconventional things.

They believe anything they read in the paper/see on the news as long as it supports one of their beliefs, otherwise the writer, etc is "lying" or "twisting the truth".

The toilet has a lid for a reason.....so, if it's not in use it should be down. End of story.
I'm almost sure a woman didn't invent the toilet seat, so really men are responsible for this whole thing!
I have to say though it's really annoying when you have a 2 year old that likes to stick his hands in there if the seat is up. I compromised and started keeping the bathroom doors shut all the time.
My husband makes the same argument - put it down before you sit! I just ignore him and nag anyway!

Confession.
by Englishman inis it really good for the soul?
does it make us clean and pure again?.
or is it the easy way out, a way of shrugging off our misdoings and leaving us free to behave badly again, for example by visiting a confessional box each week?.

I can see the benefits of a private confession (not like confessing to the elders because that's never really a private conversation). I think some people, like me, tend to carry guilt around for the smallest things - even if they don't really matter. I think that guilt might be worse to you physically/mentally than confessing to a trusted person that will keep it confidential. The trouble is finding that person.....

Don't forget every young sister's dream seat....one where she has a perfect view of some cute guy she can ogle while pretending to listen and watch the stage. Heaven forbid if the object of your affection somehow got a seat behind you. You'd be nervous the whole day wondering if they were looking at the back of your head (or your butt when standing for the song....).

Last Meeting
by Nosferatu infor those who have been out for a while, was there anything special about the very last meeting you attended (excluding memorials)?
was there anything incredibly memorable about it?

How many of you went to the elders when you / someone did something wrong ?
by run dont walk ini've read a lot of threads of late, where people stated when they did something wrong they would go the elders the next day and confess.. i find this truly bizzare !!!.
okay, maybe i didn't have a conscience as a jw, i did alot of things wrong, but, that would be the f--kin' day i would go to the elders and confess anything.
i would never tell those old goots anything, because then they would have something to hang over you for a long time.

I would always confess to my parents and they would end up telling the elders - thanks Mom & Dad! Actually it usually involved my best friend and the brother she wasn't supposed to be dating, but we snuck around to see him anyway.
Anyway we were having one of the usual coed get togethers posing as a WT study and he brought a cup of Jack Daniels and was drinking it. So, of course he gave us both a sip. I don't know why I ever told my parents - they could (and still can't) keep anything I tell them to themselves.
I think about it periodically now, and wonder why I felt compelled to tell them. I think it's just so ingrained to rat people out even your friends.
Oh well, I have a lot of regrets....

I wouldn't have any problem with it at all and I've told my husband exactly what to do if any of my family opposes - DON'T TELL THEM!
