  i'm sick of my job, sick of the city i'm living in, sick of most of the people who surround me daily.

  like a lot of folks here, i was "encouraged to find education within jah's service" discouraged from seeking further education whilst being raised in the troof.

  were it up to my father, i probably wouldn't have been permitted to attend regular public school, grades k through 12, much less college---education was that much maligned in my family.

  Don't have any advice, but I do have a book recommendation. Let me preface it by saying, I assume you are in the US. (I know, that's presumptuous of me, but I notice that all you Britishers always state your country of origin, where the USers just assume it's the only place on earth. haha) I read this book a number of years ago, and it really seemed to paint a clear picture of American economic mentality. Entertaining too.

  "A Nation in Torment: The American Depression 1929-1939" by Edward Robb Ellis.

  Also loved this one: "Guns, Germs and Steel." Don't remember the author, but it's more historical politics. Very interesting read though.

  I can't do it anymore.

  people who've been reading my posts will know i've been trying to get reinstated so i can get back together with my girlfriend/fiance.

  the more time goes on, the less i feel able to do that.

  all the things i hear from the platform, and the things that elders have said to me just reinforce the fact that i want nothing at all to do with this organisation anymore.

  i am interested to know whether jw's or ex jw's on this board really did believe 100%.

  did you have doubts all of the time, did you have some confusion or did you never doubt at all?

  i recognise that most on this board will have had doubts at the end but was this always the case when you were a good dub?

  I believed every last thing. I took every "conscience matter" to it's extreme end. It was my ultimate goal to be "wrapped up the bag of life with Jehovah." (1 Samuel 25:29 NWT) That meant being as deeply involved as one can be. I never questioned ANYTHING--- I thought. Until I got out. Then I realized that way down deep, where I never allowed myself to take them out to consider, I had strong disagreement with many things. The stand on education, the attitude towards gays, the repression of women... ugh. Stopping now.

  my wife and i joke about the differences in our own halls all the time.

  i swear she lived in a country club compared to my hall.. just to give a couple of examples:.

  and this is from when i was growing up until i left home at 18.. every single weekend was field service.

  Freedom? Do I know you? I swear, you just described my hall and my family exactly. Are you my brother the super elder having secret doubts and posting on the naughty internet? haha.

  Ugh. I tell people this stuff--even other witnesses, and they look at me like I'm wearing a couple of extra eyeballs or something. We once have a multi-family meeting with an elder mediator because this other girl in the hall (she was a real bitch) and I couldn't get along. We were IN THE SIXTH GRADE!!! And the every Saturday service thing... bookstudy in our house. There was NO WAY to miss it or service. Usually we went in service on Sundays too. Also at least one afternoon after school was required.

  I had a very stunted childhood, I'm beginning to realize.

  I think it's a good point, because there are so many things we didn't learn, or missed out on because of being raised by the WTS. They never made decisions on things, just looked in the magazines for the "rules." Sucked.

  Doing the "walk" too, with Kate! Sorry for your cousin. Hopefully someday they will find something more effective than mammogram/surgery. The more people that participate in activities like the "Race for the Cure," the more money... the sooner we have a cure and quit losing lovely people like Mulan's cousin.

  Being close to "worldly" relatives

  my mom said something to me tonight that has me thinking.

  i have a lovely cousin about 7-8 years older than i. we look like sisters, and she has a wonderful, engaging personality.

  she is also smart, articulate, loyal and very down-to-earth.

  My mom said something to me tonight that has me thinking. I have a lovely cousin about 7-8 years older than I. We look like sisters, and she has a wonderful, engaging personality. She is also smart, articulate, loyal and very down-to-earth. I recently saw her for a couple hours. It had been two years since the last time I saw her, and before that it was more than 10 years.

  So tonight, my loyal JW mother told me, "It's a shame you two weren't closer in age, you probably would have been really close."

  My first thought was that we never would have been close even if we had been born the same day and lived next door to each other, because she was "worldly." I then also thought that if I hadn't been raised as JW we probably would have been close despite the age difference.

  Did any of you who were raised in a strict hard-line witness family maintain close ties with "worldly" cousins, aunts, uncles, etc? Or were the relationships largely limited as in my family?

  Are You Surpised By What You Don't Believe In Anymore?

  jehovah's witnesses must "believe" whatever the watchtower bible & tract society publishes.

  now that you aren't forced to accept beliefs that you might not have wholeheartedly endorsed, there must be many different things that you don't accept.....what comes to mind?

  I'm more surprised by the things I DO believe. Rejecting doctrine has come very easily to me. If I'm shown it doesn't make sense (like chronology or the governing body) no problem there. But now I find I'm very intrigued by mysticism, earth energies, the Eastern ideas of Qi and Chakras.

  I'm surprised to realize I have very strong political opinions, and I'm finding I'm a more than a little bit of an environmentalist.

  I'm surprised to find out how strongly I feel against the WTS. Listening to my family talk about their experiences makes me physically ill. I just want to get very far away from it all. I'm surprised at how much I DON'T care if I'm exposed from my fade, and get df'd (although I don't intend to hand anyone an easy "victory.")

  If someone had told me a year ago that I would think any of this stuff, I would have said they were crazy, then told the elders. Puke. But whoopee for me! Gettin' out is a good thing.
