it just dawned on me today that this board is not full of desperate women for men.
all the years i was on jw boards, it was crawling with sisters who were desperate for finding a man.
used to drive me crazy... all of a sudden i noticed today that it isn't like that here.. .

I haven't spent any time on JW boards but I'm assuming from your
description it's pretty much the same as the Convention "husband
trolling" I remember from my mispent youth. I think it's great
that most everyone here all seems to have recovered from, or never
had that desperate "must find man and make babies" syndrome.

on new years eve morning, my son (28) ex-jw, da'd 3 years ago, went to see the doctor, he hadn't been feeling well for a while, tired and run down.. they took some blood for a test, at 5:15pm the doctor rang him up to say their was an ambulance on the way his blood count was only 5.7, should be 13. he was very aneamic, which would explain the tiredness.
next day they gave him 2 units of blood and another 2 units the next day.
he had no hesitation in accepting the blood.
I'm glad your son is doing better Gordy! It's great that you've found a more loving group of people to be with too.
In regards to the JW's in times of ill health and death, I've seen my share of incosiderate to downright nasty behavior too. It seems to be yet another worldwide phenomenon in their org. I'm glad your new church has loving and caring people for you to be with.
The hall I went to always noticed when someone wasn't there, unlike alot of the experiences I've read here, but the result was no better. They'd freak if you even missed one meeting or they'd gossip behind your back. I have a friend who had an appendicitis attack and the whole hall criticized her for missing the meeting. Her family begrudgingly let her stay home. They thought she was faking. When they returned home she was balled up on the floor. Her appendix burst in the ambulance and she almost died.

i've been lurking here for a few months now, and i've been wanting to post for awhile now but i've never really been up to it.
i first stumbled upon the information about the wtbts being an ngo for 10 years in september, and ever since i've been finding out about all the other things the society has been up to.
as of now, i'm still going to the meetings, but now my eyes have been truly opened, and i can see things in a whole new perspective, and it's amazing the deception that's going on in the organization.

You sound like you're in a pretty similar situation to my own down to the pressured to get baptised young by my single mom and the "If you were to leave the truth..." speeches. I wish you the best of luck in whatever you decide to do.
I left "the truth" 10 years ago when I graduated high school. For me personally, although my mom took it hard, she did not "die". It was hard at first, but it got easier with time. I would not go back or change my decision for anything! I learned later that the speeches my mom used to give me have a name...emotional blackmail.

Grand Marais congregation, Minnesota used to be good for a wicked fistfight. My brother left so now it's probably alot less exciting.
Silver Bay congregation just up the road isn't big on fistfights but they get some awesome scandals.
I don't think I'd be able to handle all the down time involved in hanging out with those people again, though. Just watch Jerry Springer for a good scandal/fistfight fix.
i attended a notorious congregation as a child, the infamous winter gardens congregation!
my cousin and his best friend, both named joe, were elders, my cousin was the po and the other joe was a total loser suck up who wanted to be just like my cousin, joe.
what was even funnier, as i get off point a bit, is that "suck up" joe's wife, cathy, did everything she could do to get her pudgy lil self to dress, look, walk, and talk like my cousin joe's wife, clementine.
Grand Marais hall, Minnesota, used to be a good one for scandals and fistfights, but I think all of us who were causing most of the scandals are gone now. It's probably pretty quiet now since there's only like 10 people left. Mostly minor scandals but lots of fistfights. My little bro was to blame for most of the fistfighting and scandals though. Being a fatherless boy he got no mercy from the elders.
The hall just up the road got all the really horrific scandals, they had, still have in fact, freaks galore. Elders wives peeping in windows to detect bad behavior, attempted library break ins to detect unnapproved reading, lots of sex scandals. After reading this, it looks like they are a pretty normal congregation after all.
while watching the history traveler channel's story on lourdes, i heard an interesting phrase: "fantasy prone personality" and looked it up on line.
i think it's pretty interesting.

Sorry fellow Americans, but I'm with the Englishman on this one. We don't call it a local here but call it a corner bar or a watering hole. I have a couple favorites in my town and all my Ex Dub friends have their own favorites and we make a circut between them. I work at a Casino Bar too and I have all my regular customers (like cheers) and friends there too. My favorite bar has an open mic night and it's fun to have a few and either enjoy or make fun of the new talent.
i've heard a few comments about watchtowers and awakes being left in doctor's offices, laundromats, etc.
maybe the witnesses are lazy in my home area, but i have never seen anything like that -- and i think, since i always look for something to read, i would have noticed.

I didn't realize it had a name either! My only regular call was the Laundromat when I was a kid. A friend and I made a home movie of our town when we were 15 and we devoted a portion of it to making fun of pioneers padding their hours laundromat witnessing. My mom saw the movie and got ticked, she erased that part of our movie, sadly, because it was pretty funny.
