Just the opposite. there were two brothers who the elders would not work with and they always paired them off to me when my wife did not go out. they would sit or stand next to me and the one taking the lead would say brother so and so you and brother blueblades take this territory that no one wants to work and go there. I got to not want to go out in service unless my wife came with me.

What is your experience with a Philosophy class?
by Blueblades instudents wandering into a philosophy class are usually hoping to gain some perspectives on, say, the meaning of it all, but then some rumpled guy in mismatched tweeds ambles up to the podium and starts lecturing on the meaning of "meaning.".
first things first, he says.
before we answer any questions, big or small, we need to understand what the question itself signifies.

How do you know that you know the stuff you think you know? Take away the option of answering,"I just do!" and what's left is epistemology.

Understanding.
by Narkissos ini was thinking that understanding -- in the sense of self-, community- or world-understanding -- might be the main stuff people are looking for, and willing to buy, in religion and philosophy.
even before hope, comfort, practical help or the sense of belonging.
a "vision" (in greek theoria) that "makes sense" of "reality" as it is perceived and construed.. it seems to me that such understanding (or intelligibility) has little to do with "truth".

Hi Narkissos! I just saw your topic after I posted a topic on "What is your experience in a philosophy class?" It may be responsive to your topic.

Students wandering into a philosophy class are usually hoping to gain some perspectives on, say, the meaning of it all, but then some rumpled guy in mismatched tweeds ambles up to the podium and starts lecturing on the meaning of "meaning."
First things first, he says. Before we answer any questions, big or small, we need to understand what the question itself signifies. Listening reluctantly, we soon discover that what this guy has to say is wicked interesting.
That's just the way philosophy and philosophers are. Questions beget questions, and those questions beget another whole generation of questions. It's questions all the way down.
We may start with basic ones like, "What is the meaning of it all? and, "Does God exist?" and, "How can I be true to myself?" and, "Am I in the wrong classroom?" but very quickly we discover we need to ask other questions in order to answer our orignal questions. This process has given rise to an array of philosophical displines, each delving into particular Big Questions by asking and attempting to answer the questions that underlie them. Any questions?
So it follows that, "What is the meaning of life?" is dealt with in the discipline known as Metaphysics, and "Does God exist?" in the one called Philosophy of Religion. "How can I be true to myself?" falls to the school of Existentialism; "Am I in the wrong classroom?" to the new sector of philosophy called Meta - philosophy, which poses the question, "What is philosophy?" And on it goes, with each sphere of philosophy undertaking different kinds of questions and concepts.
And so, when two students wandered out of the classroom, they were so baffled and bewildered, they were convinced that they would never get their minds around this heady stuff.
What is your experience with a philosophy class?

Was Jesus really without sin?
by Terry inhe violated the sabbath law and he saved a condemned woman from being stoned in compliance with the law.. does it matter he had scruples and self-justifying theological arguments?.
would those arguments have saved anybody else from being put to death?.
technically speaking (the letter of the law) could we truly speak of jesus as really without sin?.

Sin, what is it? Answer as defined in Insight On The Scriptures: Anything not in harmony with, hence contrary to, God's personality, standards, ways, and will; anything marring one's relationship with God. It may be in word, in deed ( doing wrong acts ) or failing to do what should be done, or in mind or heart attitude. Lack in faith of God is a major sin, showing, as it does, distrust of him or lack of confidence in his ability to perform.
Sin occurred in the spirit world before its introduction on earth.
Was Jesus really without sin? Well, Terry, awhile ago, you recommended a book to read, "Misquoting Jesus". I read that book and it gave me insight into how the writer's have made mistakes and changes that shaped the Bible we read today.
So, what to believe about anything written concerning Jesus' words and actions gives one pause. Who can actually answer your question from hearsay information that may not have happened at all?
Thanks for recommending the book.

Bottom Line: What's Going To Happen To The Jehovah's Witness Religion?
by minimus inis it going to become mainstream?.

It will be around for a long time. The world headquarters will move out of the city. Real estate is the bottom line. There is plenty of property to sell off.

What survives death?
by JH inwhen a person dies, does anything survive?
jw's say no.. my mom, who is baptist now, is sure that the soul lives on.
so, just like a good jw of old, i said to her, "the devil wants you to believe that".. then she said, how about your spirit?

Read "The Denial Of Death" by Ernest Becker. Then read "Searching For Eternity" by Dr. Don Morse. This will give you two opposing conclusions to your question,
What survives death?Man has always had and still does have " Death Anxiety" Two camps have always visited this question with opposite conclusions: 1) that life survives the death of the physical body, 2) that death is the end of life, non-existence is to follow.
The thing about life is that one day you'll be dead..David Shields.

Blondie good job as usual. Could you clear up one thing for me. Somewhere it was thought that the "Burnt Offering" Q.4, was Jephtah's own daughter. That she could not have served in the sanctuary.
Par.12 Mentions "Our Day, Soon", they are still preaching a destruction soon to come in our day.

Blondie! No watchtower conductor still in can light a candle to you. You haven't lost your touch. You are so right when you ask "Where Is Jesus?" Especially at this time of the year! I missed you. Others have picked up the mantle while you have not been feeling well, and they have all been doing a good job.
Still, I have always thought that you would compile all your comments into one tome, which I know would be a keeper, whether in book form or on a CD. If you ever do it, many would see and read between the lines that the watchtower's comments are simply not true. Many more would come out of captivity.
I understand that it would be a great undertaking and maybe there would be some copywrite issues, but, it is something that I personally would use to help others get out of the organization.
Not withstanding this, you have already helped so many to see the watchtower for what it truely is, not worthy of any comments.
Take good care of yourself and hubby

Could U Please Cite Some Personal Interesting Observations About The Truth?
by minimus infor anyone that looks at this thread, could you write something either profound or simply interesting so as to make the reader see the truth about "the truth"?

I agree with Don Cameron's response. Another personal observation about the truth..." You'll never get sick. You will never grow old. And you will never die." The Watchtower society has been proclaiming this as the truth for decades. This attracts and has attracted many people ( including most of us here on JWD. ) It then sustains them as they eagerly await the fulfillment of this promise. Many of us have in time found that this promise about the truth was illusionary.
For many of us have gotten sick and still are suffering some form of sickness. Many of us have grown old and are getting older. And many of us have died, are dying, and will die. What a gross tort of misrepresentation when it comes to the truth!
This we all have personally observed.
