I remember giving talks and lookng out over a sea of faces, transfixed with the permanant gaze of vacant, hollow minds switched off to reality.

Little Matthew at the Kingdom Hall
by pennycandy inwhen my oldest child was about three we were in a kingdom hall with quite a few kids.
my son was frequently brought to the back room, not for a spanking, but to stretch his legs and take a break.
later diagnosed with adhd, he could not sit quietly if his life depended on it.

Years ago we had a watchtower conductor who at the begining of the study would have little kids come on the platform with their own colored pictures that highlited something from the lesson. The little kids enjoyed going up there and showing their artwork, a lot of parents enjoyed it to. HOWEVER when the CO found out about it...guess what happened...? He stopped it. Back to the same old same old.

long time sister told me yesterday that end would be here within 7 years!!
by PaNiCAtTaCk ini went to the meeting yesterday because the out of town speaker and his wife are good friends of my wife and i. after the meeting we got invited to someones house who was feeding the speaker because they know that we are friends and because ive missed lots of meetings in the last two months and my wife and i need a good love bombing!
well during our lunch i was complaining about my having braces at 30 and how stupid i looked with them and the 83 year old sisters house we were at told me that i wasted my money on them because the end would be here with 7 years anyway.
i asked her "do you really think so?

Every witness wants the end to come in there life time. Look at the lengths that Rutherford went to in interpreting prophesy to "prove the end would come around 1925. Same with Freddie Franz He was sure time would run out for the system before it did for him. This old woman is probably convinced Big A will come within her lifetime, maybe she's only giving herself 7 more years. I wonder what she thinks about the district convention and not being presumptive about seeing the end?

I could never really understand why there were no special programs for kids. Why can't they do something to make it enjoyable for young ones. I know one family with 5 kids where the father ruled with a "theocratic" iron fist...you've never seen such a disconnected family. they seem to lack the natural affection that you would expect to see. One of the daughters loved school and was a very bright girl, at about age 12 or 13 her father insisted she begin home schooling so that she could also pioner. the girl wound up with anorexia and almost died. She was isolated from the family and the Docs said her problem was rooted in the way her father treated her. She went back to public school but has never been quite the same since.

Reply on some good things in the organisation...
by Do I Stand Alone? inmy motivation was not to "recruit" for the watchtower society.
i thought i made it clear when i stated that i am no longer one of jehovah's witnesses anymore and that i am on your side.
however, the impression i am getting is that no one is really understanding what i am getting at.

The only "positive" I can think of that has any value is... my experience taught me self determination and self reliance when I was finally able to say No more, I've had enough, I'm out of here.

Did it ever bother you that Watchtower never did charitible works?
by AK - Jeff ini mean, for forty years believing the witness lie it always made me wonder.. judas was the keeper of the money box - and there are statements that indicated that the apostles thought that wasting money that could be used to aid the poor was sinful - so indications are that the earliest christians were doing charitible works.
of course there are many scriptural passages that encourage that activity among believers.
today all the organization ever does is pay lip service to charity.

When I hear of elders or the Society witholding help from the needy it reminds me of the parable of the good Samaritan. Who really is Christ-like?

It reminds me of a few lines from "Paranoid Eyes" by Pink Foyd...
...you believed in their stories of fame fortune and glory
now you're lost in a haze of alcohols soft middle age
the pie in the sky turned out to be miles too high
and you hide, hide, hide, behind brown and mild eyes
