During my married life I have literally worn out two breadmakers. I love those things! I particularly love the delay setting so I can put the ingredients in the night before and awake to the smell of freshly baked bread. Mmmmmm.

I have an older, finicky machine that gives me variable results. I finally figured out I can peek at the dough after kneading. If it doesn't look like a proper lump, I add water (powdery and lumpy looking) or flour (gooey wet soggy pile) and run it through the kneading again. I get much more consistent results now.

I keep sourdough on my counter and one to two times a week hubby gets fresh sourdough bread. Yummy!

Wow I never thought of purchasing a bread maching before this post!

However, I think I'll miss making bread the old fashinoned way. Kneading dough is such a stress reliever!

Hmm now I am very tempted. My boyfriend has wanted one for ages but I've always poured scorn on his yeasty desires because too much bread isn't good for you. However Christmas is coming up and this would be the perfect unexpected gift for him to play with.

Can anyone tell me how easy it is to get the ingredients and how to get healthy ingredients like whole grain? Also someone mentioned leaving it on at night to be ready for breakfast - there's no risk of it burning or anything then?

Here in the States, you can find all kinds of healthy ingredients at the health food store, even at some grocery stores. I've used a bread baking machine for years, it's absolutely wonderful! I have a model now with all kinds of settings, one for white breads, batter breads, whole grain breads, even one for just dough (doesn't bake the bread when it's done kneeding). I make pizza dough, then take it out and make homemade pizza.... mmmmm!

If you have a machine with a timer setting, you can set it so that your bread will be done when you wake up in the morning, when you get home from work, etc. It won't burn, it just turns itself off when the bread is done.

    Have fun!

Thanks GG! I can;t wait to wake up on boxing day to my boyfriend's best efforts. I love bread with cheese and onions in it - so I'll get the ingredients for that! And I just sawe cruzan hearts description of a delay setting so I will make sure ours has one of those.

I bought one of the Black & Decker bread machines and love it. I usually make the whole wheat bread, but sometimes I'll make the white or careway rye. So far I've only tried recipes that came with the machine, but I'm on vacation for the next 2 weeks so I might get more adventurous.
