Well, I cancelled my trip to the Mall as it is raining cats and dogs here in the NorthEast. It has been ugly weather in New York for what seems like ages and ages.

I can however order a bread machine over the Internet....thinking about it

Ok, now I'm getting hungry just thinking about this. I need to try the onion bread, but I'm also looking for a good recipe for cinamon rolls.

If anyone has one feel free to share!

Hi LL.............i have had a bread maker for years (actually got it when i got dféd and had soooooo much time on my hands seeing as though my house went from being full of people to none, bar my family...LOL) and use it to make pizza and pasta dough. (i'm italian, what can i say LOL)

i recommend trying the home-made pizza, the dough is excellent! let me know if you do and what you think.

    cheers, Bliss

I had no idea these machines were so popular.

Hmmmm now I have to get to the store some time soon to get the pizza makings.

Lady . . .a friend of mine has one and the bread is great. I don't want to get one 'cause I'd be seriously overweight. Ain't nothin' better than fresh homemade bread ( well, I can think of one thing ).

    Hmmm --- good!

Since I've been retired we hardly use the machine but I have wonderful memories. We're just lazy now and buy our whole wheat from the store.

I'm on a cardiac diet -- few fats except fish, nut, and olive oils (extra virgin -- yes, you can also stovetop cook with it if you watch the temp). Guess what -- you can substitute the olive oil for whatever oil the recipe calls for and cannot detect it.

We mostly made whole wheat bread and found the following helpful:
The flour is available at any grocery in our area -- Kroger, Brookshires, Jade.
Keep the whole wheat flour in the refrigerator for freshness (and to keep the population of bugs down). Yes, it's not bleached so critters love it. When you open the package you'll see them. If you think the population is too great, take it back and the store will exchange it.
You must add wheat gluten, some 4 level TSP for 1 1/2 lb loaf.
Yes, as someone else noted, make sure all the ingredients are room temp before you add to the pan -- including the yeast.
Yes, you should slice your bread when it cools, then place into individual sandwich baggies (they don't have to be freezer bags) and will last a month in the freezer without freezer burn.
Yes, we tried one of those knife guides but that makes the slices too thin. The length of the loaf is too variable based on our experience. So I divided (you can "eyeball it") the loaf into 7 pieces. That way you get same amount of carbs no matter what -- some weeks it'll be a little denser, and some weeks a little fluffier, than others.

I'm on my 4th bread machine, but haven't used it all summer. For some reason I just can't get into bread in hot weather. I use it all winter though. Dave is the only one who eats bread regularly, and home made goes bad in about 3 days, so it has to go in the frig.

Rachel (Princess) makes all of her own bread and I have a hard time getting the kids to eat my sandwiches unless it's home made bread. They just don't like it.

The machines are so inexpensive now. I think my first one was about $160. The current one was less than $50 and the best one yet. It's a Regal.

Of all the people I thought might have a bread maker I KNEW you would. Don't know how I knew that but I did. So thanks for proving my intuition was right
