    My ten,

    1. Myself, my wife, and three kids were all born in Akron, Ohio (home of Alcholics Anonymus). We now live in Dayton, Ohio (home of the Wright Brothers)

    2. Myself, my wife, and my oldest daughter are all left handed. My wife, myself, my son, and my oldest daughter were all born in October. My youngest daughter was born a week before Christmas. We have a two month old grandson, and a nine year old grand daughter.

    3. I love all kinds of music. My two favorites are rock and roll, and classical.

    4. I like to read nonfiction, but don't read a lot. I prefer good educational television for the visual compontent of learning.

    5. I dabble in photography, but would like to get more into it.

    6. I enjoy stand up comedy in particular and humor in general.

    7. My wife and I enjoy eating out, listening to live music, baseball games, and short week end trips to near by points of interest.

    8. The most I learned about people was during the 15 years I worked out of town and spent many an evening at the local old fashioned neighborhood tavern. I miss the place now that I have retired back home.

    9. I have been out of the JW organization for over 35 years, and haven't given them much thought in the last ten years until I found this forum. In the last month, I have had three JW related dreams, and that bothers me. Never had any before that.

    10. I am very lucky to be married to my wife. She has put up with a lot of BS from me over the years. It only took me 25 years to figure out how to get along with a woman.

Quiz question: There are five people in a family. Three of the five are first born. How could that be?

Great posts, I love reading them all. Here's mine.

    1. I was born three months after my parent's wedding in 1967. I was my mom's ticket out of a very scary, disfunctional situation. Her alcoholism and becoming a JW during my childhood made me just as eager to leave home (well, not that eager). I had a lovely little girl out of wedlock that I nursed 5 minutes after saying "I do" to Joel, my husband and best friend.
For that matter, I nursed both my children (now ages 5 and 11) for two years each.

    2. I was a witness most of my childhood until age 14. My parent's could no longer keep up appearances at the Hall and with their worldly alcoholic buddies, so we got a break. My brother, sister and I went trick or treating that year for the first time in our life. Stupidly, I felt guilty about leaving Jehovah and headed back into the hall after the birth of my daughter.

    3. I change my color preferences with the seasons, but I'm constantly drawn to vibrant fuschias and oranges.

    4. I love to cook and I'm a food writer. You can read some of my articles at Emeril Lagasse's website or in various food magazines.

    5. We have a Persian kitty named Bijou and a Sheltie called Lucy. I've always been more of a cat person than a dog person, but I love all animals. Cats are just a lot more cool.

    6. I love to travel. So much so that I worked for the airlines loading luggage for several years just for the free flight benefits. After becoming pregnant with the last one I called it quits.

    7. I'm part Native American, Potawatomi to be exact. Ok, there's about 10 other nationalities in there too, but they're not as interesting.

    8. I love to read just about anything, except western romances or stuff like that. I love Roald Dahl and reading for the kids is one of the highlights of my day. The BFG is one of my favorites.

    9. I played the violin for two years until the pedophile teacher I had moved on from asking me stuff like "do you love me?" to trying to touch me inappropriately. I was finally able to stand up for myself and get my parents to let me quit. I didn't tell them the real reason, but my mom suspected it and I told her more details years later. He was arrested several years later in another state for molesting children. I've just now started to be pissed that he ruined my love of music for me and am thinking of taking violin lessons again.

    10. I recently got pierced in an unusual spot. I think I mentioned that already though. ;-)

    Larc,

Quiz question: There are five people in a family. Three of the five are first born. How could that be?

    Father, mother, and eldest child.

    Shaneliza,

A kinder, gentler Scarlett, eh? Perhaps Scarlett after she realized she loved Rhett?

Have you read the book? I like the family history and how it explains Scarlett's divided personality--wanting to be a great lady like her mother but having the earthy, lusty Irish blood of her father, too.

I'm not sure who I'd be. As a JW, I wanted most to be like Melanie, long-suffering, kind, self-sacrificing, trusting to almost the point of naivete. As I grew older, I identified more with Scarlett and her struggle to survive and take care of those around her. Some days I feel like Mammy, "It ain't fittin', it just ain't fittin'!" Other days I feel like Prissy. I love Butterfly McQueen in that role. "Just a few more days for to tote the weary load . . ."

My father censored my reading like a hawk. He raked me over the coals after finding The Vicar of Wakefield in my bedroom closet. A school chum had loaned it to me, and it looked boring, so I hadn't read it. According to Dad, it was rather risque. Even his backhanded recommendation couldn't induce me to read it.

Always remember, parents--if there are classic novels you want your children to read, put them on a high shelf in a dim corner and grimly warn them that these books are obscene and were once banned. Did you know that an illustrated edition of "Little Red Riding Hood" was banned in two California school districts in 1989? Following the original story from Grimm's Fairy Tales, the book shows the heroine taking food and wine to her grandmother.

Because Gone With the Wind was an old book, it somehow escaped the censor. I picked it up one summer in sheer boredom and soon found myself devouring it. I was only 12, and boy, did I learn a lot! I still remember the naughty horror of reading Rhett's offer that Scarlett be his mistress and her answer, "What would I get out of that except a passel of brats?" I looked up from the page and around at my family in amazement that this book had gotten past Dad.
