Judging from your distaste of answering direct questions I'd say you were a perfect candidate for involving yourself further with the JWs.

Which board on this planet is going to certify you when you tell them you will not administer blood? Are you ready for the ethics conflict that will result when the WT asks you for confidential patient information?

How can you be "your own person" as you stated when Jehovah insists you obey the WT representatives. Remember, it's straight from the GB that you "obey and give glory" not just to God but to the WT Reps.

You can't have it both ways as a professional.

Anyone else notice that for someone "who has been attending meetings since grade school" and "has been studying for four years" and is an unbaptized publisher that this person doesn't seem very familiar with the Dub jargon? He doesn't even seem to know that he is technically an unbaptized publisher. Wouldn't waste a whole lot of time with this one

I've been to all christian churches of many denominations and honestly find what's taught under the Watchtower society to me is better than the rest.

All, wow, you've been around. I've been to many, many christian denominations and find that they overwhelming represent more of the true Gospel of Jesus Christ (love) than I ever found at a JW gathering. I've never been a dub. The so-called Memorial did it for me, as far as never attending another meeting with my JW friend. To spend an hour, at what was suppose to Memorialize Jesus sacrifice for mankind, and talk very little about the meaning of that sacrifice, or even Jesus Christ himself; and then pass the emblems of that sacrifice around for everyone to ignore.... what a slap in the face to the Savior (even though it wasn't meant that way). To me, the JW reject several of the commandments given by Jesus, partaking of communion is just one of them.

    Welcome psycsnacha.

I don't think you will find what you are looking for here. You come across as a seeker, but I have to ask, "Where do you get the questions you ask?" As such you can easily become a True Believer, because when you look for something, you will find it. That means validation for your beliefs, confirmation of your thoughts only because you want to believe it.

If you become a Witness, are you going to tell others you have 'The Truth'? You will have plenty of support for thinking so, just look in the right places, talk to the right people. I think Jesus 'said' it much better when asked "What is truth" by Pilate.

If you keep looking without, you will miss the truth within; you will only have found a semblance of such.

No one here can change you, or convince you of anything. Don't expect them to.

One's spiritual journey should last a lifetime; becoming a Witness ends it prematurely.

Don't quite believe that. But it's a matter of opinion I suppose. I was raised from birth going to the kingdom hall and I would go to my church before I would ever go to a kingdom hall again.

PSYC------There must be a reason you have not made the FULL dedication to the ORG. BAPTISM! You may be smarter then we think! You associate with a group without the commitment! I wish I and my children had done the same! FREEDOM! Once Baptized, you can not walk away without consequences!

    1. It being prophesied that the gentile times would end and the last days would see some sort of rebirth of God's earthy people with an accompanying spread of the truth about God across the globe.

The problem with JW doctrine is that they use 607 BC as the fall of Jerusalem as a pivotal date for the calculation of 1914 as the "end of the gentile times".

JWs is the only group that claims 607, all other sources state 586/587. Much more information here: WTS and Chronology

Since this is critical to the entire doctrine of JWs and their world view it may serve you well to research this beyond the WT publications.

    Good luck!

    Hi Psyc,

Welcome to the board. Everyone thus far has given you really good info. I hope you check it out for yourself. You are not really a JW until your baptism. You can ask the elders about this and they will tell you. So you are not held to the same standards as the "real" JWs. It is good that you are questioning now, because once you are baptised, you can NEVER question without being thrown out of the org. Also, most JWs put on a good face around those who they are trying to bring into the Borg, oh, I mean Org.

I also went to many chuches before becoming a JW. My experience is a little unique because I could never stand reading WTs and books and only used the bible for the most part. Once I got baptised and started really reading the Mags, I could see that they were in error on many of the basic teachings of Christ. It then took a long time to get out of the org. I am not labeled an Apostate. The elder my hubby and I studied with made a lot of things seem like conscience matters, WRONG! we did not find out he lied until after we were baptized.

I now have a personal relationship with my God and his son Jesus. I pray daily and read my bible daily. I am attending a non-denominational church that stresses God's Grace above Works, and I enjoy the fellowship. I have learned a big lesson from being in the WT, that looking for a religion that has ALL truth is wrong. There is none that have this and there never will be unless God himself accomplishes this. The WT has a view that they are all in unity but what they really have is conformity. Any group claiming a market on ALL truth is a group I avoid like the plague because they are a cult. Not even the Apostles understood everything.

I also learned that as a Christian, I am never to judge anyone, even those of other religions. And that there are good teachings and God fearing people in all the major religions in the world. Most believe in a creator like Christians. Even those who do not believe in a God have morals. We are all part of the human race and therefore are already in a "world wide brotherhood". We all should respect each other's views. The bible is ONLY for Christians and therefore to push it down someone elses throat is crazy. If Christ wants someone to follow him, HE will call them to do so. Are christians more moral than everyone else belonging to another religion? In my experince NO. And sometimes I find the opposite as most Christians feel it is their duty to save the world, and can be very judgemental and try to put standards on people that they themselves cannot uphold.

Whatever you decide, I hope you have peace in your life. Do I feel the WT is cultish, Yes. So please beware.

    To confession,

I wish I had read your post BEFORE I got baptised. It would have saved me 12 years of angst. Good Post!

    psychsnana,

Welcome to the board. You sound like a really intelligent person. Most of your questions are framed within the context of Christianity, and I am no longer religious in any sense, so I don't think I can help you much in that regard. But I can tell you what turned the gears in my head, what caused me to make what was the hardest decision in my life.

You'll be happy to know that for me, it was not hypocrisy. (I do feel obliged, however, to point out that it is entirely possible to be imperfect without being a hypocrite - the two are not necessarily tightly bound - but that is a discussion for another day.) For me, it was the fact that their "proof" of their underlying theses - most significantly that the Bible is God's infallable word - their proof for these was so incredibly weak that I began to feel dishonest when attempting to convince others based on it.

I think I described my reasons most lucidly in my disassociation letter. It's online here:

I must apologize that in several spots, the software on this board removed country names. You'll notice the missing names of Malawi and Mexico near the end.

Hope that provides helpful perspective! Best wishes on your journey.

    Welcome to the board!

Well, I am glad you are an educated person...Since you have been studying for 4 years something must be going on in your mind...since you have not become a babtised witness yet...but, trust me if you do EVERYTHING will change. They paint a pretty picture and promise you great things but you don't realize it was all just a lie untill it's too late...Why do you think there are so many witnessess all around the world?? and so many ex- witnessess? Type "what is a cult"in Google and you will see why this forum and many other sites and people call it that.
