Sound great however a word of caution if you are finantially dependent on your family you know rent and the like and are not really independent You could be in for a rocky road. and I don't mean Ice Cream lol. All I can say is you got guts and more power to you and please keep us posted on the outcome. this will be very interesting.
I feel like taking a risk on the platform tomorrow night.

OnTheWayOut,
If your talk is not 100% in line with the watchtower, the school overseer or the PO will have to make corrections (if possible) right after your talk.
Not true anymore. In principle, they would do this, but the school format in the last 4 years has not allowed for negative criticism of information in talks, plus the Bible Highlights is only assigned to qualified brothers (those qualified to teach). There is no time for correction of information given, the meeting must move on.
If presented correctly, the brothers will say absolutely nothing. If stated in a way that really goes against WTS opinions, then the School overseer or PO (along with another elder maybe) will simply have a talk with you. Be ready to show that the information showed how you were right. This will start to pull the mask down.
THX, that’s interesting. I remember the arrangement that even if a visiting speaker (elder or ms "qualified to teach") presents ideas not in line with present wt truth the PO should take over the chairmanship and clarify matters to the congregation right after the public talk. Or the wt study should be shortened for the PO to give concluding remarks. The speaker can even be interrupted, but this only by the PO. Counseling the visiting speaker should only be done by the PO.
That’s an interesting change and a slackening of control to a certain extent. I guess for interested ones to experience an obvious disagreement from the platform is more disturbing than the "disinformation" itself, which can later be clarified.
That’s great, fading brothers giving their "goodbye speech" can state their reasons without fear of being interrupted.
How was this change announced?

Wow, good ON you!!! I wish you were one of my little brothers, they're clones.
And so, are you getting yourself a good education?
I'm going to community college for automotive technology training. It's one of the things I could see myself doing, though really I had my eyes set on going to a university, or pursuing music, as I have done for many years. R6Laser, I'm suprised higher education was so freely allowed in your congregation! I'm really jealous. Here the PO believes in vocational training, so what I do does not upset him. But making plans to go to a 4-year, and get a real degree? You'd better not talk about doing that out loud around here! Even so, what if I work hard at it and eventually become a Master Tech, making respectable money? That's no good around here either. Takes away too much time from FS.
A very interesting reception id say. I guess they were stunned into silence. Next time I suggest you wear suspenders and stockings under your suit trousers. They wont know, but it might make your words seasoned with sauce! (plus I like thinking about the image - go on, do it for me!)
LOL...Like the Rocky Horror Picture Show? My dear, I'm afraid I'm not man enough to try that yet! That would be real courage. Last night I was quite tired and I forgot to mention it, but I want to thank EVERYONE for their encouraging comments and advice! I'm so glad to see you guys have my back as I make the dangerous journey out of the Tower. After tonight's demonstration, I am emboldened to speak my mind a little more from the platform, yet always careful not to say too much. Next on the agenda will be to work the Commentary of James into a talk.

R6,
I think you know jws are expected to do just as the society tells them to do or what not to do. Most jws try to do what the wts wants them to do, but the few that disagree with the policies will not advertise this from the platform. I have never heard a jw openly disagree about the dangers of higher studies during the wt study. Do they do that in your congregation?
Was your DC program different to all others? Why the constant reminders about the near end, the preaching work, meeting attendance, higher studies, independent thinking?
In what way are the young ones in your congregation encouraged to continue studying after high school? Definitely not through the pages of the wt. I am sure this encouragement does not come from the platform or conventions.

Well, I don't attend now, and I'm never planning on attending again. But when I was still going I remember the PO said it a couple of times from the platform, the benefits of learning a carreer. All 3 of his kids went to college and were considered very spiritual, his son was an MS with me as well. This PO even sent his son to a different university out of town so he could finish his degree. Now there were also others who would tell you not to worry about higher education because the end was near and so. Yes I had others tell me that, and even some family members. But it all comes down to what I wanted to do. I didn't give a rat's ass what somebody else would tell me, or what the WTS would say about higher education, I was going to do what I wanted to do.
That's why I said it depends on the congragation or how strict the members are. From listening most the horror stories here, I can tell that most had bad experiences with this. But I just didn't care what some elders or someone in the congregation thought of me. So what if they thought I was weak spiritually, or if I didn't put down 10 hours a month on my timesheet? To me that wasn't the end of the world.
Nothing new with the way the jws try to send out their message. They have always proclaimed the end of the world is near and we only have limited amount of time. This has always been the case and it will never change. Those that abide strictly by that dogma are just ruining their own lives. I saw and met many witnesses who even though were active members never acted that strict or followed 100% everything that the WTS would say or suggest to do. But there were those that read into every single small detail and took everything so literal that they themselves became a pain in the ass. Who's fault is it? I don't know myself, I guess the WTS can be blamed for encouraging that kind of behavior. But those that follow it have free will on what they do, and if they decide to follow a cult and are happy with it, why should I spend my time trying to convince them otherwise?

Well I'll be damned. I was sure that at least one of the elders would wag their finger at you. But, I'm glad it went well.
One time, when I did a Service Meeting part out of the KM, I made my introduction a little too long. ( I was a newly appointed MS and inexperienced). We had an Elders / Servants meeting after the end of the Service Meeting. I absolutely got raked over the coals by the Presiding Overseer. The P.O. operated like a fascist dictator and always sought to micro-manage affairs. He was just like Texas Congressman Tom DeLay.
If you had given this kind of talk in that congregation; you would have been taken out and beaten with bamboo shoots.

Well done, Sir Nose! I admire your courage!
BTW......why didn't we study the Commentary of James as a congregation? That was one book I LIKED!

Well done SirNose!
I always liked the Commentary on James book also, but now I know why they didn't get into it. Unfortunate.

We know one of the main contributors to that book. He is an ex JW too. I think the book is kind of on the "do not use" list isn't it? Should be interesting.
I'm sorry I missed this thread when it started. I think you did a very brave, good thing. I hope they were listening and not zoning out. The last time, my husband gave a talk like that, they only assigned him Bible readings, and he still made comments they didn't like, so he wasn't given talks again. He had resigned as an elder, but was still considered a very spiritual, learned Bible man. A few months later, we were gone, so it was no big loss to not have talks in the school.
