We might get snow later, it already has [snowed] on the nearby hills ...

Same for us here, emo, and more's on the way.

As your felines are separated from their true love by a pane of glass, might they consider becoming vegetarians? Better to be resigned to the dull and uninspired than suffer protracted torment during those nine lives ...

Hi CoCo, long time no see!

We just had loads of snow (well, more than we've been used to for the last couple of decades!). It has fortunately all gone now - I hate it when the snow gets so compacted that its a sheet of ice. i only slipped over once, I have a badly bruised leg as evidence!

Sadly, one of my felines went to the great cattery in the sky two weeks ago - Sophie, my sick kitty who was on all the meds. She hung on the best she could until I got home from work, then I cuddled her all night, she was purring for about 2 hours solid and then she went to sleep as she got weaker. I had to take her to the vets the next morning as she was going into renal failure by then - not nice if you leave it too long - she was gone before the nurse had emptied the syringe. Very peaceful.

My remaining kitty has only just come to the conclusion that Sophie is gone - he's been calling for her almost nonstop until a couple of days ago. He's still checking out all the places she used to hide both in the house and outside, i'm just giving him extra treats and tlc for now! maybe we'll get a new buddy in a few weeks

It's nice reading what I wrote about the cats in my previous post - it reminded me of the noises Sophie used to make when watching breakfast - a kind of feline Hannibal Lecter impersonation

    HOMEWARD BOUND

Having once again (but certainly not for all time) pulled himself out and beyond the anxious care of making a living, Ned settled into a more tranquil existence of puttering about the old homestead. His unhurried schedule now permitted ample time for reading, a soupcon of trying his hand at baking and a generous portion of carefree hours spent his mind in neutral while strolling the grounds in search of an epiphany hiding amidst the trees and shrubs. By no means having landed a sinecure to prosper him up into perpetuity, the middle-aged man nonetheless chose to lie low and avoid the extravagant life-style that demanded punching a clock daily.

It would seem, therefore, that Ned's conscious withdrawal from pursuits outside the security of hearth and home should afford him some solace, if not the immediacy of a newfound purpose in life.

    It did not.

Ah, time - so precious, never seems like there is enough of it! Or is it that we do have enough time but try to cram too much in?

I had one of those 'going nowhere fast' days today. I also have sieve syndrome - I can't remember half the things I've done/not done - the chief thing was forgetting to get my tea cooking in the slow cooker before I left for work this morning - so I've just had to make do with a McD's, yuck!

The weather is much warmer than it was a few weeks back and the daylight hours are getting longer, everything seems full of hope.

Perhaps it was the rush of life and commitment to the needs of others less able that kept Ned's spirits buoyant though, admittedly, ready to sink at a moment's notice. "I love what I do, but TGIF!" the harried social worker frequently said to himself, and not so infrequently within earshot of his fellow workers. They admired their workmate's industry though they were not quite so keen on displaying a comparably strong work ethic. His peers, under the same pressure as Ned, could relate to his good-humored griping.

Troubling to Ned, however, was his wishing the weekend were longer or the work week shorter, however logically that conundrum should unravel and show an obvious, satisfying solution.

He couldn't just walk away from career and service to the needy ...

    Or could he?

Whether blessing or bane, being needed by others is reality. Ned was impressed early on (by parents zealous for charity toward all) with the necessity of actively seeking the welfare of those less fortunate souls inhabiting the wrong side of the tracks. His family, too, were denizens of that very neighborhood. The young boy was not aware his parents were poor, however. After all, Ned's industrious father did put a slightly leaky roof over his head and his mother did feed him three nearly squares a day. It never failed that another person - or entire family with multiple mouths to feed - was downer-and-outer than they. It was simply unthinkable not to provide a bag of groceries or a couple bucks to but 8 gallons of the regular in the old Nash's tank.

That compassionate ethic likely accounted for this married team's ability to sleep well most nights.

Ned, on the other hand, was torn over whether or not he should take a leave of absence from the career he was groomed for. Unlike his now deceased parents, whose slumber was perpetual, the exhausted social worker's mental wrestling match of self-sacrifice versus self-indulgence permitted him little sleep.
