Please, PLEASE, do not use hallucinogens while on ANY Anti-depressants, Especially MAOI's-(marplan, nardil, aurorix, etc), as the interaction can be deadly. Taking SSRI's-(Prozac, celexa, lexapro, to name a few), with hallucinogens, can cause serotonin syndrome, an often fatal condition where you get an overload of serotonin, and will wreak havoc on your body, and can often cause heart attack and/or stroke. Certain hallucinogens act as MAOI's, and mixing them if you are taking SSRI's can be fatal due to the interaction of chemicals. If you have any doubts about any meds you are on if you decide to use any hallucinogenics and possible interactions, please do thorough research on the web before using.

Excellent warnings Ohio. Thanks for that. I had read up about that on Erowid but I should have mentioned it in my post.

If you are thinking of trying any psychedelic drugs, read up the unbiased info here: http://www.erowid.org/

wow, 4 pages on a thread about drug experiences. have the moderators gone soft or something? or does it depend on how convincing a thread on the sensible use of psychotropic drugs for beneficial effects can be?

Holy shit, people are talking about DRUG EXPERIENCES!! What the hell has come of JWD?? Heil the thought police!

By the way Pleasuredome, people will talk about, learn from, and try psychedelic drugs whether you like it or not. And whether they can talk about it on JWD or not.

Also, you are going to die one day. Carpe Diem.

i LOOOOOOOOVVVVVVVVVVVVEEEEEEEEEEE mushrooms. they are by far one of my favorite drugs. i know what hendrix was talking about when he sang purple haze. i saw the sky when i was tripping, and it was the most amazing shade of purple....to me anyway. good stuff. but, be careful. if your in a bad place to begin with, or with people you don't completly trust, it can go bad VERY quickly. i made the mistake of doing coke and mushrooms right after me and my ex-wife split up. worst night of my life. i was on a bad trip from the shrooms and couldn't go to sleep because of the coke. and i was alone. bad bad bad.

I'm glad you started this thread GBL. I've been reading it as it progresses and I've loved all the shared info. from people. I haven't done anything too hardcore yet so the opinions here are great to hear. what I have done I LOVE. I understand depths in my mind now that I could of never dreamed of.

I've always been completely fascinated by the Native American tradition of vision quests. I remember learning and reading about them when I was a wit kid and being intensely curious but also scared because I thought the indians must have been demon posessed during those enlightening trips. How cool is it when a culture *teaches* a youth to use a mind altering substance in a safe controlled manner to have a spiritual experience??!! I think that's amazing.

I'd say this caution from ohiocowboy deserves to be repeated:

Having had a brother who was a heroin addict, I can understand how your personal experiences effect you.

But would you react like this in a thread about alcohol? In absolute terms, alcohol users are just as likely to become abusers as the users of most recreational drugs, and alcohol abusers are disproportionately likely to cause harm to others when compared with most recreational drug users.

Mankind has enthusiastically investigated the pharmaceutical properties of local vegetation since the dawn of time. That is 'normal'. Most people who harp on about drugs take drugs, accept they are socially sanctioned ones. Seems 'normality' is in the eye of the intolerant...

Those who go on about the risks of drugs are normally silent about the risks of certain sports - not necessarily extreme sports but common activities with distinct risk, like horse riding or American Football. I think if someone is entitled to risk life and limb in a sport, which one does for enjoyment, then any suggestion they are not entitled to risk life or limb in recreational drug use for enjoyment is simply not well thought out.

I think opposition to recreational drugs use is only logical if it is consistent; none of this sanctioning alcohol whilst damning cannabis. Yes, both drugs have abusers, but the alcohol abuser is far more damaging to those around him. Yes, I have seen the damage drugs (LSD and pot) can do. But I also see the damage alcohol and tobacco can do.

I think comprehensive drug education is essential to reduce risk; stopping people taking drugs is impossible, you can only make sure they take drugs as safely as possible if they do take them.

I have taken caffeine, alcohol, tobacco, cannabis, LSD, amphetamine sulphate, Ecstasy, GBH... errrrr... mushrooms.

The first four are daily activities, more-or-less. Not taken anything else for ages. "Despite this" I am a Manager and my last pay rise was 15%.

The Cassandric portrayals of users of drugs like E and pot actually do more harm than good; most young people realise only maybe 5% of pot users are the stereotypical stoner, and that most are (otherwise) law-abiding tax payers with lives. Once a young person feels they have been lied to bout drugs by educators, they are less likely to believe the far likelier portrayal of heroin or crack users.

Abaddon------- I don't recall making any pro-alcohol or pro-tobacco statements in my comments, much less using either as a contrast point to recreational drug use in any way. I consider alcohol a recreational drug as much as any other. That said, yes I have used--and, on occasion, also abused--alcohol myself. [never regularly, and while still managing to keep an 3.75 GPA at college] I prefer to keep usage very limited, however. I've never smoked (tobacco or otherwise), which was a decision since age 10, so I probably have more personal prejudice against lung-ingested drug usage than most other methods, I would imagine. Beyond that...risky behaviors of all types abound, it is true. I'm not immune from 'imbibing,' myself, from the elixir of general risk. I do, however, reserve right to choose where I draw the line for myself -- and to discern the reasons why I draw the line there for me....just as you do. I also advocate SELF-EDUCATION------------thorough self-education------------on the part of anyone contemplating ANY risky behavior, recreational drug use included. ----Cutting this short. Gotta go. you've totally got the wrong end of the stick there, mate. nothing would please me more to see people talk on here openly and freely about positive drug experiences. its just whenever i've started a thread on it, it gets trashed by the mods.

btw, my avatar pic was taken on a quality night of pure mdma
