dawkins only attacks part of the problem: traditional abrahamic-based religions and their "God". in reality, a society without religion is a society that has consciously walked away from dogmatism and doctrine. political, social, economic too.

On one post I forgot the link:( for a critical view of Richard Dawkins)

Serotonin: I haven’t had time to respond to all the posts but while going over some of them I noticed this comment from you and I would like to respond.

Do Christians do good things? Absolutely. But we can count their numbers because they do it in the name of their chosen deity. Atheists don't give help in the name of anything, they just want to do it. They don't need to think they'll be rewarded, or be able to pass on their dogma in the process of giving aid.

You seem to imply that Christians donate only because they will be rewarded or because of ulterior motives whereas Atheists donate because they just want to do it. I don’t speak for all Christians and I’m sure you don’t speak for all atheists. I donate not because I will be rewarded but because I feel that it is everyone’s obligation to help the poor; those who can financially do so. In European countries the Govts donate the money through (what I hear are very high) taxes. The people don’t have the choice to donate or not donate. The Govt has made that choice for them. I’m sure there are many individual people who make additional donations privately, but for those that don’t donate privately, it doesn’t make them generous in my opinion.

Well, that stupid cartoon, David and Goliath, on the Trinity Network would bite the dust.

It's like a claymation character, David, with a talking dog.

And in all the time I have watched it, I have never seen the dog poop.

    Adios, David and Goliath.

Serotonin: I don't believe that the UN is the great whore of Babylon.

The WTBTS does not believe the UN is the whore of babylon. The whore of babylon to them is any "christian" religion other than they themselves . The UN is the scarlet colored beast and the 666 beast is the dual world power of the US and Britain that is trying to rule the world by forcing their will on everybody in it.

^ Ah, whoops! I'm a bit rusty, it's been nine years since I escaped.

Guest With Questions, I'm sure there are Christians who do good things without any reward in mind from God, but I'm sure there are those who are thinking of the reward. With any atheists donating, I can speak for them all because I know for a fact they're not doing it for God's blessing - if they believed in God they wouldn't be atheist.

When a persons motives is hatard of religion no matter what is stated that person will find a way to discredit it. Strange to me that people that want open minded world with no religion are so willing to use closed minded beliefs to destroy religion.

It is also strange they are the people wanting to do away with a different in beliefs. The beliefs most people hold in this country, that is, people of faith died protecting those that hate religion. I wonder if the shoes was on the other foot if they would measure up in this better world.

It also seems strange that people would be label retarded if they believe in God. Or for that matter to hold a view that religious people are stupid because they believe in God. I must wonder what the person view of human being are. I would suggest not very good and isn't that the point this is the type of material one builds a new world on?

And I must also wonder where people come up with destruction is the correct way to fix problems that sound just like dare I say religious doctrine. When people learn to love and accept the world will become a better place. Is that likely to happen? Highly doubtful when the world is far less forgiving of different veiws.

It also strange to me to live long enough to actually watch this world as people have become more educated less forgiving towards faith. We live in a much scary place then 40 years ago it not better it more bitter it is more spoiled it has more hate. It a much more demanding rude world everywhere. People will kill people over nothing. All this sexual freedom is really something where what really important in life is for a educated woman to shake her ass. College students go wild on spring break. Wow we come along way baby

There is enough blame to go around on both sides if you really are a open minded fair person. I don't like organized religion either, but I been in enough corporations and sales teams and seen the same us an them religious fevor enough for a life time.

Beliefs are beliefs long before christainty people were killing each other in our time in our times as well.

The issues isn't about all that now is it. Its about people that say some conduct is not correct according to the bible teachings. And we know that been the issue from the start of the human race and it will always be with us. There will be some one either religion or a government or a group by another name and they will enforce their beliefs and it will go to the point of oppression as it always does.

Thats what happens when people have freedom of choice and self-government. When people that have the power don't want religion they will use that power. People that have been enslave it should be of no real suprize often enslave some other group. It is power that corrupts and we know each generation thinks they have a handled on it that their way is new better and they have the right to enforce it on others that is what government is all about.

Religion will be done away with because it has done some really sick things. However, it is made up of humans and we must never forget we are all part of that family and we all share in some of that blame. Some of the worst people I have meant in this life had no belief in God. Some of the worst people I have meant in this life had religion. But I never meant a person that has loves and respect for all beliefs to be a bad person - yet..

I am one of those retards... I find it equally incrediable that people don't believe there is a God. However, I would never endorce any group that would suggest that we should do away with these people. Religion has take the position did/has it made it a better world? And if people that have been oppressed can't become better people more enlighten they are not better but the same as those they destroy.

I don't think just the abscence of religion would make the world a better place. Men have been killing each other for way too long. There are just too many things that divide people and a lot of corruption in high places.

Just look at Washington DC, they sure are power hungry there and they don't play too nicely either.

    Juni,

Thanks for the video. isn't that a beautiful song. The last Witness wedding I attended, they had that sung by a young man who did it justice.

I wondered if the witnesses listened to the words. I think they apply it to eveyone but them.

Hasn't religion had long enough to prove to everyone it is the correct worldview to take? All that's happened is religion has had to change to fit in with the times. That's why we don't believe in the Sun God or Thor or Zeus now. Yahweh is just at the end of a very long list of outdated beliefs. Now that there is a threat to the survival of humans based on these beliefs, more people need to speak up about it.

The beliefs most people hold in this country, that is, people of faith died protecting those that hate religion.

    ...in wars over religion.

If someone believed a magical invisible pixie was blowing invisible magic pixie dust on their head to ease their problems in life, you'd wanna help them not think that way, even if the delusion brought them comfort.
You would definitely wanna help them if they thought that if they stopped talking to the magical invisible pixie they would end up in super hot pixie fire for a million zillion years, and they had to live with that fear.

Then of course, if you knew they were going to brainwash their own children to believe in the magical invisible pixie, you'd try hard to get them to see sense.

How about if the President said the magical invisible pixie told him to go to war? How about if science couldn't progress because the magical invisible pixie said all the answers to life were in the book 'Pixie Guide To Life'? What if it was okay to discriminate against gays cos the 'Pixie Guide To Life' told you to? What if people didn't care about global warming because they believed the magical invisible pixie was going to blow invisible magic dust all over the world, sometime in the next 50 years, and solve everything?

Obviously, people would have to speak up.

Now, if anyone can show me there is more proof for a god than there is for a magical invisible pixie, I would certainly take a good hard look at what I'm doing. I don't think people are just deliberately stupid, but I do think they need help.
