I know that what is written about what Jesus taught is all hand me down hearsay. There are many mistakes and changes that shape the Bible we have today. Scribal errors, mistranslations and recreating the text is well known by historians.

I ask what do you know about the formation of the Bible that we have today and how reliable are the Qouting of the words and teachings of Jesus?

Biblical record speaks of very long life spans. Adam lived over 900 years.

According to the Bible, Adam was alive 6000 years ago. How do you explain the fact that human fossils have been found which predate this time?

Life was much different before Noah's flood. There are fossils to prove this too. For example, there is evidence in samples of ancient amber that the atmosphere contained twice as much oxygen is it does today and that the atmospheric pressure was much greater. Therefore, there would have been other animals and plants living on the earth before we even dreamed to be born.

Please provide proof (even a non Christian link) that the Earth was so drastically different just over 4000 years ago.

The argument I've heard about this (from a teacher no less - a die hard Baptist) is that carbon dating is unreliable.

Hibie, do you remember when Satan took Jesus to the top of a mountain to see all the kingdoms of the world?

Obviously, one cannot see all the surface of earth from any perspective, including a mountain top. So why take him there? (if it was a vision, there would be no need to go anywhere)

Perhaps to get a view of the surrounding kingdoms, that is, the local area or the known world at that time.

So "all the kingdoms of the world" does not necessarily mean the literal world or earth. So jesus could still refer to the flood in this same use of the word and not mean a literal earth wide flood.

You'll sway more people to believe if your arguments don't fly against a huge amount of physical evidence, and you still get to keep your jesus

Yup poppers - I think that's the line that 'Answers in Genesis' take. Another one I've heard is that fossils are fake

Christian scientists (an oxymoron) would say that. Every other scientist wouldn't. Science is only reliable when it doesn't go against the scriptures for Christians. I wonder if they believe carbon dating accurately dated the dead sea scrolls and other ancient texts.

blueblades: I ask what do you know about the formation of the Bible that we have today and how reliable are the Quoting of the words and teachings of Jesus?

To answer this question I believe that it depends on which bible you are talking about. We all know that there are many, many versions at the moment. I prefer to use the King James Bible because truely the scholars of nowadays are not better equipped to translate the Bible than the King James translators were.

The men who translated the King James Bible, if you really think about it, you will find that their knowledge and education literally outshines that of the scholars we have today. This team that worked on the King James translation consisted of a group of researchers with incomparable skill. To even think that today's scholars could ever equal or improve those of this Authorized Version is absolutely contradictory and ridiculous!!!!! How can one believe then that learning and schooling are superior nowadays?

If you really admit what is going on you will say that the world is getting worse with time. Our morals and personalities have fallen. Individuals have deteriorated in their dispositions and values as far back as the 1600s. There is lack of self-control. The atmostphere and the environment have changed drastically to the worse. There is more pollution and greed with the more we have.

Some of us would just act as if everything has improved, but....it just isn't so. The more forward we "seem" to be going, is the more backward we are. The education of the scholars who lived about so many hundreds of years ago, let's say about 500 yrs in the past, was definitely way far outstanding than that of our intellectuals today. Therefore, our education system has also fallen along with the whole world. The quoting of the words and the teachings of Jesus would then be much more accurate as we seek the information from way back then.
