journey-on: In 325 A.D. when Roman emperor Constantine formed a council of historians and scholars and directed it to put together what is now our Holy Bible, many many texts and documents were modified, removed, or left out.
Hi actually I was in the middle of replying and something went nuts. I didn't even know anything was posted. Anyways, I just wanted to know which version of the bible were you referring to. hibiscus
bigdreaux: i will say, i think you should read back, and actually respond to the questions asked by other posters.
Thank you very much for your honesty and for liking me. You are nice too.
And with respect to the above. I am trying but my machine is soooooooooo slooooooooooooow....and there is so much to read...and I get hungry now and then.....and I have to go do work and all that. You know...a woman's job is never done.

Thanks a million!

Mary and Joseph were very surprised to find Jesus in the temple. Mary asked Him why he had stayed there when they were going home. She told Him how worried they were and how they had looked everywhere for Him.You know what Jesus said? He said," Why did you look for me? Didn't you know that I would be at my Father's house?"
Mary did not even understand what Jesus meant!
That's very strange. Did Mary forget God's spirit made her pregnant when she was a virgin, and that Jesus was God's son? It was only 12/13 years earlier.
Mary worship is just plain creepy!
My grandmother was Catholic. It was she and my Grandfather (he of the searching for the true religion ilk) who reared me as a child.
Her emotional addiction to Mary was very troubling, even as a child.
The vision of Bernadette was of a woman most people claim was the "blessed Mother".
Mary makes regular appearances like a third rate celebrity on grilled cheese sandwiches, old water towers, and wood panelling!
Sometimes statutes (not idols! Aids to worship!) of Mary "bleed" olive oil. ?!?
I'll say this for her; she isn't a one hit wonder.

No, of course not! Mary did not forget about that. It is what Jesus told her that took her by surprise. Just like the teachers in the temple, no one would expect a little 12 year old to be that way. Mary just didn't think about how soon Jesus would start doing His Father's work. She didn't fully understand where Jesus was coming from in His answer. hibiscusfire
Terry: Mary worship is just plain creepy!
Terry, Mary has been given and referred to as with so many names. Numerous statues have even been made where people and priests bow down to them. God speaks against idol worship in the Bible. These particular leaders deny that the religion exercises in idolatry. In this sense, from the historical evidence, we see a process of imitation which robs Christ of His most important characteristics and fixes them in Mary.
It removes Jesus from His central place in the bible and replaces him with a Mary entirely different from the biblical figure.

Hi Hibie,
Did you see what you just wrote there? How is it any different than what the bible writer's wrote?
They made assumptions based on a statement that they did not personally hear or witness.
There is no way to prove that what they wrote is truth or just conjecture with no evidence whatsoever.
You believing in the bible as factual is exactly the same as if someone read what you wrote and took it as fact.
journey-on: But, remember, also, Mary was the one that activated him to perform his first miracle. He told her he wasn't ready, but she, more or less, told him to do it anyway. AND HE DID just as she told him toThis is not quite accurate journey-on. At that wedding in Cana more or less reveals the relationship between Mary and Jesus.
In John, chapter 2, you may have read about that wedding. It was Jesus' first miracle. The story, however portrays Mary in a somewhat negative light as being a pushy mother.
Jewish wedding parties could go on for days, and running out of wine would have been normal. And so the wine ran out. This would have created much embarrassment for any host. Caterers usually make up for these kinds of shortfalls quickly. In other words, Mary’s request was not an emergency situation, and not one that Jesus needed to solve. He could have told her, “If they failed to plan properly then it not an emergency that we must deal with."
