Have you changed your mind about ABORTION?

As a JW, I really didn't care about abortion. In my late teens/early 20's, I was actually for free choice.

When I started to see fetuses on ultrasound machines at 3 weeks gestation with a heart beat & got to watch their development week by week, I personally turned against abortion, especially those for unwanted pregnancies where the mother failed to use birth control. The fetus has all the potential to become a human. It's sad that our laws protect the nests & eggs of eagles & endangered owls.....but we can dismember a fetus growing in its mother's womb.

That being said, when an abortion is to save the physical life of the mother, to save the life of other fetuses (case of multiples), or because the child is very deformed & a full term birth is next to impossibe, then I'm for abortion in these extreme situations.

Am I for outlawing abortion? No. The reason is abortion would still happen. The abortion pill would become as widespread as pot.

Oddly enough even as a JW I was pro-choice in my own mind. Needless to say I never voiced it but I always felt that it was a choice and still do.

I was very much against abortion as a JW.

Now I feel it is such a personal thing, that no one should decide for you if it's right or wrong.

    Pro choice, definitely.

I'm pro choice too and in my heart I think I was as a dub too. A non dub acquaintance (many years ago when I was an active zealous witness) had an abortion while she was at university and I remember when she told me, I felt that in her situation, it was the right thing to do.

That is so strange for me now to think about it.

As a Jehovah's Witness, I felt abortion was wrong because that was what we were taught. But I never really had a strong feeling about it, and I've always felt that those who picketed abortion clinics or worse were extremist. Now my view is basically pro-choice.

However, I also agree with others that a much better choice would be to choose some form of birth control. Unfortunately, there is still some resistance to some forms of birth control. I think it is ridiculous that it is easier to get an abortion than it is to get a vasectomy or a tubal ligation. Sterilization should be available immediately on demand. Unfortunately, it is not practical to determine some objective measure for determining who should be allowed to procreate. But given the number of people who are horrible failures as parents, there should be no obstacles to permanent contraception for those who want to be responsible and prevent procreation.

I guess I was pro-life before as a Dub....but, I didn't have any of my own thoughts back then anyways!

I've held an 18 week fetus in my hands and let me tell you it was a human through and through, abortion is the deliberate murder of another human being.
