Have you changed your mind about ABORTION?

The idea of abortion repulses me, but that doesn't mean I think it is necessarily wrong.

I hate it when women use abortion as a form of contraception. If you can't afford to have a baby, go on the pill or use a condom!!

If there is something severely wrong with the baby or the mother has been raped or if the mother's life is at risk, then of course abortion is acceptable.

But I hate late abortions. I watched a programme on tv a couple of weeks ago and they were aborting a 15 week old fetus. The doctor crunched it's limbs off one by one and pulled them out. It was absolutely gross. And it's legal to abort a baby up to 24 weeks gestation. In one ward they will abort a fetus this old and in another they will be trying to save one in the neonatal unit. It doesn't make any sense.

I think the cut off should be 12 weeks, and in exceptional circumstances they should be done later but the fetus should be aneasthetised so they don't feel anything. The doctors are not unanimous on whether the fetus can feel pain or not.

    5go,

The problem of deadbeat dads is a BIG problem. Divorced women live almost in poverty. My past secretary is in a terrible, terrible fix. Why? Her ex hasn't paid a dime since her divorce two years ago. Child care costs $400-$800 a month, depending on child's age. That doesn't count the food, clothes, recreation, health insurance, larger apartment, etc. The State law calculates a reasonable amount of child support payments, based on both parent's income levels. Yes, even though the amount is reasonable...dad's do not pay. I've seen many a doctor/lawyer dad not pay....even though they own fancy cars.

However, Kudos to all the outstanding men who honor the child with their time, care, wisdom, & support. These are the real men.

The US courts will not permit mandated sterization - not even for child molesters, prisoners, or the severy disabled. Procreation is a fundamental right. This is not China.

To make young people responsible, we've got to change the young woman's & public opinion that unprotected sex is ok & better. We also have to teach them that if they don't use birth control - to keep their legs closed.

Plus, now for some young people, it's "vogue" to be like Madonna & other stars who have children out of wedlock. While a fetus is saved, the hardships of teenage pregnancy is unreal. There are no butlers, nannys, and million dollar bank accounts.

In France, the government gives much more support to unwed mothers. However, the French tax system is very high.

Yes, adoption is a better answer than abortion, in most situations.

Some would say child support enforcement has become state sponsored slavery. I have seen only one true dead beat in my life and seen five or six officialy classed that way. Depite the fact they are starving themselves and choosing between the making the payment or starving. In Texas you can go to for failer depsite hardship. That leads to the State picking it up anyway. Cut out the slavery part is all I am saying.

BTW ones rights can not infringe on the rights of another. You can be asked to sterilze yourself before going on a state funded program. The diffrence between this and China is you can opt out if you want to. In China it is manditory to use the program.

Slavery....tell that to the child who watches his mother not know where the money for the next bill is going to come from.

For the child, there is a large feeling of being abandoned. Feeling to blame. Lacking security & self confidence.

After a divorce, both sides have to realize a lowering of their standard of living. Dad may need to get a roommate, drive older car, etc. You'd be amazed at how many deadbeats make over $30K a year. Even giving $100 a month would cover the light & water bill.... Instead, deadbeats run away & want no contact with the kid...why? Guilt.

In the end, it's cheaper to work through the marital problems & be a good spouse & parent. Step up to the plate, America.

    It's a complicated issue.

Whether it's been legal or not, abortion has been around since the beginning of time.

Do you know how many children are in the foster care system right now in your state? Here in NYC the child caseworkers themselves have become foster parents, boldly breaking their agency rules. Talk about taking your work home with you!

How many well to do couples really want to adopt a 14 year old black or latino child with developmental disabilities? When they think "let's adopt", they are looking for that cute blue eyed baby. Granted, there are exceptions, but.........

My mind has never changed about abortion. Agree with it or not, it's a difficult decision and whatever you choose, the consequences are with you for the rest of your life.

My personal feelings about abortion are the same - I would not have one.

While it bothers me that some people consider it to be a birth control option despite there being so many alternatives to consider, my feelings about other people deciding to have an abortion has changed - it isn't my place to judge.

Tell the kids there daddy is in jail because the Judge won't set his child support to a level that he can live as well. Also where is the mom's responsbilty, so the dad is a dead beat. Why did you have kids with him? Why didn't you do some to help make up for it? Life ain't fair, sorry! That is why moms need to start picking up the responsbilty, or give the kids up for adoption. I bet when that threat hits the dead beat suddenly ponies up the cash!

I thought this was a fascinating exchange when I saw it on Larry King Live:

LARRY KING: Some of the bases we will cover tonight. The Supreme Court has said "partial birth" abortion is wrong. The woman will not be blamed, but the doctor can get up to two years. Thoughts?

BILL CLINTON: Well, you know, I vetoed that bill twice. And I think it is a great victory for the political strategy of the anti-abortion movement. But I do not believe it is a pro-life decision.

    KING: No?

CLINTON: I do not. Not a pro-life decision, because let me remind you, when I vetoed that bill, I had standing in the White House with me an evangelical Christian who had had the procedure who was pro-life, an Orthodox Jew who had had the provision who was pro-life, and another Christian who had been pro-choice.

All three women and their husbands and physicians, but two of the three had had the provision were pro-life. They did it because their children were -- I mean, their unborn children were severely hydrocephalic, they were certain to die either before, during or immediately after childbirth.

And the doctors told them that if they did not reduce the size of these babies' heads, which were swollen very high -- very large, that delivering them, even by cesarean section, might so damage the women that they might not be able to bear other children.

And they told me that they would other never want to use this procedure, that no one would want to do this unless there was some medical necessity for it. But it sounded gruesome. You could use -- you can label it and no one ever knew the facts.

It was a perfect political strategy. Who can be for "partial birth" abortion? It is a great line. But the truth is the doctors who did it and the women who agreed to have it -- as I said, I talked to two of them who were pro-life, anti-abortion, they did it because they thought it was a pro-life position. They thought it was the only way they could go on and have further children.

I agree 100% with the above. Aborting late is just uncessecary.... there was one story where a very obese woman was pregnant and did not know it! She thought she had indigestion (the baby moving) and then she thought she was having a really bad stomache ache...and she's in labour...and delivers a healthy 8lb baby girl. (just saying, some women do not know they are pregnant till father along)

I think abortions after 12 weeks is killing a sentient being. If they have to do it later, definitely more humane means should be used. W e treat our animals with more respect. It's sickening that they would heartlessly murder a little baby( in that painful manner.

I will always be pro-choice, but I am against needlessly killing life. Adoption if at all possible should be thought of first.

I have always been pro choice and I still am...and believe that no one has the right to dictate what a woman does with her own body, so no my views on abortion haven't changed.

On the other hand after seeing my great grandson Hunter born weighing 1 pound 12 ounces in September 2005 and seeing the healthy, happy toddler he is now has given me a greater appreciation for human life personally. http://www.biloximagnolia.com/Hunter.jpg
