Journey,
I agree with you.
5go,
The problem of deadbeat dads is a BIG problem. Divorced women live almost in poverty. My past secretary is in a terrible, terrible fix. Why? Her ex hasn't paid a dime since her divorce two years ago. Child care costs $400-$800 a month, depending on child's age. That doesn't count the food, clothes, recreation, health insurance, larger apartment, etc. The State law calculates a reasonable amount of child support payments, based on both parent's income levels. Yes, even though the amount is reasonable...dad's do not pay. I've seen many a doctor/lawyer dad not pay....even though they own fancy cars.
However, Kudos to all the outstanding men who honor the child with their time, care, wisdom, & support. These are the real men.
The US courts will not permit mandated sterization - not even for child molesters, prisoners, or the severy disabled. Procreation is a fundamental right. This is not China.
To make young people responsible, we've got to change the young woman's & public opinion that unprotected sex is ok & better. We also have to teach them that if they don't use birth control - to keep their legs closed.
Plus, now for some young people, it's "vogue" to be like Madonna & other stars who have children out of wedlock. While a fetus is saved, the hardships of teenage pregnancy is unreal. There are no butlers, nannys, and million dollar bank accounts.
In France, the government gives much more support to unwed mothers. However, the French tax system is very high.
Yes, adoption is a better answer than abortion, in most situations.
