    Hello Happy Heathen,

Thanks for your reply - as we can now prove that we're stickin' to the subject, eh?

Jews and Mormons have their share of problems, I'm sure. But I have friends in both groups and can attest that their world view is much more optimistic than J.W.'s nor are they as isolated. I went with my Mormon friends to their temple a few times and, of course, they tried their darndest to convert me but eventually gave it up. None of them quit associating with me, nor did their church tell them that they must. Both Jews and Mormons advocate higher education and encourage all kinds of social outlets for their people. Compared to J.W., they really are much more "part of the world" and tens times more well adjusted than J.W's.

Good points. I just threw Jews and Mormons in because they tend to be rather restrictive historically. Mormons, even though cultish-thought by many, do seem to have a more open outlook. You didn't mention the Taliban, nor the different groups of Muslims, etc.

You did make an interesting observation - it was your friends you talked to about this, which is natural. My children, who aren't in the Org. now, still have a positive outlook (in general) on the jw childhood. I've given them the grown-up facts on it, however, to try and make sure they don't get all misty-eyed and want to go back.

My point would be - different people remember childhoods/experiences differently. Glass half full/half empty concept. I do agree that the WTBTS teaching on raising children isn't healthy - but, a lot of other styles aren't either. A decent jw upbringing is a hell of a lot healthier than being beaten, raped, etc., imho, - which happens to a high percentage of kids, in or out of the organization.

A decent percentage of people have always blamed their childhood/mother/father for their problems in adult life. Sure, some played a major part in screwing their kids up - or their kids perceiving themselves as screwed. But there are other kids who grow up - and move on. And in the meanwhile, don't verbally, emotionally, or physically attack others - or allow others to do these things to them. Or they get good professional help.

Farkel is correct in his stance that we could all interact more gently with each other - taking into consideration our background in our posts to others who have the same type background. But our background doesn't excuse our behavior if we endlessly attack each other.

Nice to meet you, btw. Hope you stay around.

    Hello, Julie,

You know another thing I have noticed about you and those who seem to think just like you is this: You don't use swear words so you feel you have the Very High Moral Ground on certain issues. In reality though you guys hit below the belt, twist words to no end, many jump on one all the time, and you retreat in the most cowardly way from insults that you hurl as soon as you are called on them. Personally I will take a plain-spoken, honest, forthright sort of soul (evenif it means swera words) over your personal brand of Upright Communication anytime.

I never said I was taking, have taken, will take, hold, hope to hold the “Very High Moral Ground.” It’s just that thanks to “mother” (aka the WtB&TS), I’ve learned to recognize bullshit when I see it, and farkel is full of bullshit. At least I think so, until I see otherwise.

You are the first person in memory to down me for not using swear words. I’m sorry, but I learned a long time ago that you can tell anybody just about anything, if you know how, and I know how. It’s nice to know that you will take a forthright cusser to one who refrains. Reminds me of someone else here who likes the ‘down and dirty’ approach. To each his own. Different strokes for different folks. Not my cut of tea. All that. So on and so forth.

For the record, y’all, I have twisted no words of farkel’s. the quotes I listed above are his. They happened over an extended period of time in a variety of settings and threads and Julie should either know that or axe somebody.

Excuse me for not following the crowd, Julie, and falling over myself with praise for a single post of his recommending tolerance when he is the last to have shown anyone any. This single post of his obviously worked for you, but I have to see more if *I* am to beleive a single word of it. Don’t expect, want, or need for you to understand.

I see you demanding Proof from Farkel that he is a nice guy.

No, I "demand" nothing from him. I WILL need to see a different sort of behavior from what I’ve seen in the past in order to believe that his words are more than a wet pile of dog doo doo.

My but the standards of proof with you fluctuate like the Dow does these days. On one hand a word about those you don't like is "all you need" (no proof required) but when someone tries to reconcile with the board for harsh words in the past, by God you need proof of sincerity.

If you would pay attention rather than have such an interest in ranting, you would see that my standard of proof have NOT changed. You need to brush up on your reading compreshension. Again, check http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/forum/thread.asp?id=14631&site=3 and you will see that I heard from four sources (total) the veracity of the other situation. Here, I only have ONE. I understand why you don't see the difference.

Thanks for unwittingly helping me make my point about you. It seems to be another thing you and your friends have in common. I make point about you and you all insist on helping me to prove them right. I guess all I can really say is Thank You.

    You’re welcome. I guess. [8>]
