    Hi Vinny,

    Nice to see you again!

I didn't see the posts that prompted this discussion, so I may be speaking out of turn. If so, sorry.

If I say, "You are a moron for believing in God" then that is most certainly disrespectful and inappropriate. I wouldn't want to legislate against that sort of thing, but I would definitely lose respect for someone that talked that way.

However, if I say, "I think belief in God shows a lack of logic and reason" then I'm stating an opinion. (One I don't happen to hold, BTW, so don't bother flaming) I don't think that is disrespectful. It's an opinion, and one I could be called upon to defend and could lead into a lively and even useful discussion.

Would you agree that one is acceptable and the other is not? Or would both be out of line?

    Dave

And do you really think that because the bible speaks of false Gods that this gives atheists the right to ridicule those that do believe in God?

    Do you hear yourself?

You're saying those gods were false but yours, of course, is true.

    LOL!

This is a no win argument for you NVR.

    Please elaborate.

It's a simple request for a greater measure of respect and greater level tolerance of other beliefs by atheists and or by anybody else.

    So what's wrong with that?

    Nothing.

But again I ask you, was the Bible tolerant of those that held other beliefs?

    What about Jehovah Himself?

Do we agree that there are beliefs, not to be confused with those that hold them, that are not worthy of respect or tolerance?

All people have a right to voice their opnions in a democracy, even stupid people. Sometimes they even get elected to public offices.

Acceptance is not the same thing as agreement or approval.

Intelligent people have as much right to argue against the vagaries and stupidity of the obsessively religious as the obsessively religious have the right to rail against intelligence and rationality.

Who's going to stop it in a democratic discussion board? And why would rational people want to prevent such discussions? I think only irrational fear is what gets in the way of intelligent thought regarding religion and such fear prevents people from understanding that religion - (even their own) - doesn't always earn, deserve or warrant unquestioned respect.

Sure, I can show up on thread after thread doing my own debunking of atheist teachings again and again and again

I haven't seen one sucessful debunking of atheist teachings simply for the reason there are none. There are facts the supporting a theory evolution and there is the bible teachings to the contrary. Even some theist have chunked the bible's teaching saying god caused evoltution!Which I respect that over the bible is right because god said so through the bible writers.

I would have no problem if this is how it is in most circumstances. But it's not as respectful as that. And I can post one thousand comments here to support this statement.

I was going to respond to this, but my doorbell rang-one moment.

Nope, no atheist knocking at my door this time. Damn evil atheists. Always pushing their agenda. The sign outside clearly states- NO ATHEISTS, please.

Read this thread and watch what happens to the atheists here: http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/132307/3.ashx It was not very pretty either. This was another poor showing. http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/132946/1.ashx Or this month long debate between over 50 atheists and just two theists... and then just ONE. http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/12/134488/1.ashx Or any of these last year: p196.ezboard.com/Does-God...=584.topic p196.ezboard.com/Who-made...=613.topic p196.ezboard.com/Debating...=648.topic p196.ezboard.com/Theism-a...=599.topic I have no problems debunking atheist beliefs and have done so many times, and always with the very same results. The atheists leave the thread, start name calling, change the subject and other neat little tricks. But they never answer the questions explaining just how complex things arise from nothing by nobody into amazingly organized, complex and purposeful things. I have done the debate thing too many times to count. I always answered every single question asked of me. Never ran away from anything. If you think atheism is some non-debunked kind of truth, you are only living in the dark. But life is more than this. Who cares if atheists believe there is no God? Good for them. "Live it up", I say; cause this is all there is according to atheist beliefs. But when post after post starts to chide those that believe differently, on a non atheist weebsite, then I think somebody needs to hear about it. And that now has been done as well. So we move on to better things hopefully. I have said my peace here. Agree or disagree, at least I took the time to say something worth speaking about IMO. And, as you can see, I am not alone. More respecty and tolerance is what's being requested. Nothing more.

**** I will read it later on. But if theists started disrespectfully attacking atheists, without provocation, then I'd feel the very same way about them.

    This is about MUTUAL RESPECT...

    FOR ALL SIDES.

I am happy that atheists are happy. I am happy that Buddhists are happy. ETC ETC...

Just a little more tolerance is what's being asked for by other people.

I did not start this thread nor any of the atheist threads I was a part of. In each case the atheists were very rude towards theism. That attitude is what caused me to get harsh and rough up the atheists while I was there.

But who wants to do anything like that for a living?

    Not me.

Again, I will read that thread soon and send you a PM.

But some respect and tolerance is all that's been asked of here.

I just do not see any problems with asking for a little more of that!
