**** NVR is a Waskally Wabbit that has some JWD folks fooled...
Your left handed compliments and cyber beer drinking (in response to nvr's gesture of good will) don't fool me.
Your true colors come thru loud and clear.

Change,
My issue with SOME atheists is, even when I admit that God may, or may not exist, obviously because I have never actually seen Him, and it takes faith to believe in God, they still want "proof".
If God exists, and is an invisible spirit creature, how can anyone present proof?
Other than that, anyone can believe, disbelieve, and/or worship whatever they want.
Doesn't affect me one way or the other.
Read some of the responses to my thread "I really don't care".

changeling, I am offended that you use "Left Handed" as a negative term.
I am left handed and there is nothing bad about being left handed, stop persecuting us for being different.Just kidding; but, I am not kidding when I say there is no god.
I agree with Hortensia, "grow up and develop a thicker skin".Philip

Yeah I don't get it. Any belief should stand up to criticism. Any criticism that happens here is usually in response to something obtuse that has been said. If your faith is so weak that you can't handle it, don't read those threads.
'Disagreeing and explaining why' isn't the same as 'disrespecting'.

Just as the JW's are wary of "apostates" from their faith, I find that believers are wary (maybe not "fearful") of non-believers (a.k.a. atheists).
Especially is this true of believers who are aligned with religions that are expansionist / evangelical in nature, such as Christianity and Islam. They feel believers are on the side of the true deity, whereas those who don't believe are eternally condemned. So believers earnestly feel they must attempt to persuade non-believers to believe correctly. It's viewed as a life-or-death matter, because their religion tells them so.
Atheists have no such religious tradition. So even when we join in an intellectual discussion about matters of belief, it isn't a life-and-death matter as it is for believers.
I am an atheist who has relatives and good friends that are medium-to-strong believers. I don't disparage them their beliefs, and wouldn't disparage believers on this board simply for holding beliefs.
Where religious belief and organized religion crosses the line is when, due to an interpretation of a book or law originating from an unknowable and unprovable being, they (the religious leaders) meddle in the political realm, or the educational or scientific realms, trying to sway things their way on important public policy issues or as to what is taught in our schools.
The other major area where organized religion crosses the line is in supporting wars fought in the name of one deity or another. World Wars 1 and 2 started in the heart of Christendom. Young men were urged from the pulpit to go fight, and God would be on their side. The 9/11 attack was carried out by individuals who were told they'd be entering an Islamic paradise after their death. And all the current middle-east strife has religious overtones. (Please don't tell me that millions died at the hands of atheist dictators. Such leaders did not use leading atheist philosophers to preach young men into the trenches.)
The atheist is not seeking a God-free society, because that's not likely to happen any time soon or ever. What is desirable is that everybody be free to believe what they want, and not have a certain brand of "truth" be enforced by our governments or in our schools.
Isn't such freedom better than having one theistic view enforced?
