Am I the only one that finds it ironic that Vinny is now claiming that he just wants some respect on both sides? With his posting history?
Bwahahahahahahah anyone?
I think fear of atheists is more accurately a fear of having cherished beliefs challenged. Personally I think it is right to question everything including creationism and evolution, if you don't want to have your beliefs questioned then don't post on those threads. Some people here are forgetting this is a public forum and a public conversation, if you were in a pub or bar would you expect anything different?
If I went into a conversation in a bar and claimed that I believe in santa claus I would be laughed at (at best, more likely forever written off as a fool) Magical thinking is in my opinion foolish and I will quite happily offer that opinion in public. However, that does NOT mean that I think that all theists are fools or that people should be forced to a secular viewpoint or that theists have any less right to their opinions. If I talk to a theist and they do not want to have an adult debate on the subject then fair play we can talk about something else, if they do then it is fair play to present my opinion on the subject and for them to do likewise.
Recently a poster on this board couldn't understand how disgusting it was for her to look forward to her god committing mass genocide but was offended in a later thread because her god and beliefs were being disrespected.
Ben Elton has a book out at the moment about a society in which all belief is respected as fact, worth a read.
Remember by your thinking your god made me an atheist and who are you to question his judgement?
