Fear of athiests

Am I the only one that finds it ironic that Vinny is now claiming that he just wants some respect on both sides? With his posting history?

    Bwahahahahahahah anyone?

I think fear of atheists is more accurately a fear of having cherished beliefs challenged. Personally I think it is right to question everything including creationism and evolution, if you don't want to have your beliefs questioned then don't post on those threads. Some people here are forgetting this is a public forum and a public conversation, if you were in a pub or bar would you expect anything different?

If I went into a conversation in a bar and claimed that I believe in santa claus I would be laughed at (at best, more likely forever written off as a fool) Magical thinking is in my opinion foolish and I will quite happily offer that opinion in public. However, that does NOT mean that I think that all theists are fools or that people should be forced to a secular viewpoint or that theists have any less right to their opinions. If I talk to a theist and they do not want to have an adult debate on the subject then fair play we can talk about something else, if they do then it is fair play to present my opinion on the subject and for them to do likewise.

Recently a poster on this board couldn't understand how disgusting it was for her to look forward to her god committing mass genocide but was offended in a later thread because her god and beliefs were being disrespected.

Ben Elton has a book out at the moment about a society in which all belief is respected as fact, worth a read.

Remember by your thinking your god made me an atheist and who are you to question his judgement?

yeah, that was goooooood. Very clearly put and I agree with him - at least as far as I listened which was about half way through. I bookmarked it as I see he has other videos and they are probably just as good.

(((Huggles))) Changeling. I wuvs ya and all my other wonderful atheist friends, but then, I am not exactly a christian either, lol, so perhaps to some of the christian posters, I'm just as bad to the bone, hehe. I respect people who respect me, period. Regardless of their beliefs. Why should anyone fear an athiest unless they are unsure of their own belief system and feel threatened?

To suggest that an athiest isn't free to voice their opinions is to send us all back to the WTS, IMO. Perhaps not all of those leaving the jw's believe in christianity anymore, and don't want to be preached christianity here. Maybe, just maybe, our diversity is exactly what they need, to help sort out what they do believe/don't believe with all the confusion and guilt running thru their heads.

I know that personally for me, had I come here after leaving the JW's and it was a "christian based site", I would not have stuck around, because I no longer believed in the 'big bad boogy man in the sky'. I enjoy reading posts from all sides, filtering that information with what feels right for me and drawing my own conclusions. I would dare to summize that many coming here, also want to learn what they truly believe, with all the information available to them, to draw their own conclusions.

We all need to be tolerant of each other, provided we all show respect for each other. Sorry, but if someone tells me your wrong and you'll pay for it, my respect for them, has just gone out the window, adios, bye bye.I have personally learned a great many ideas and food for thought from these big bad "atheists". The minute you close your mind to the possibility you are wrong, you have become wrong. Just my two cents.

Honsestly I disagree with this guy a lot on some of his views of religion he is to hard on Islam. Yes they all are very good even the ones I didn't like. I can respect this guys views even if I disagree with him on some of them.

I watched the other one you posted, about angry Christians. He just says very clearly what I think but can't express so well.

This video shows intolerance. It's like the Chinese American Idol. The women dress like men or like they're in the military. They all dress the same. It seems like the only thing that they can change is their hair.
