  proper snowdrifts.

  helping to make trifle on Christmas Eve.

  throwing a tennis ball against the wall - all those different ways - overarm,underarm,bounce, double-bounce...

  skipping - only had plastic washing line which didn't half hurt yer legs if you got to 'bumps' speed and missed your step - ouch!

  occasional games (only when dad was working nights so I hardly came into contact with him) - knock-a-door smash (where you put an empty milk bottle on someones door handle, knock and run!) and making genies after bonfire night - highly dangerous activity!

  Hand games (two to four girls in a circle playing hand games like "Miss Mary Mack" or "Rockin Robin"

  Swinging really high and jumping off

  Swinging on the metal rings at school

  Playing handball with a big rubber ball on the school wall

  Double Dutch

  Playing in the sand box. Building cities and castles of sand. With moats around them.

  Slipping and sliding down the slip n slide.
  Playing kickball and badminton in the evenings after the heat of the day subsided.
  Staying up to 2AM playing Monopoly.
  Putting records on the turntable and dancing like crazy fools.
  Sitting in front of the window unit air conditioner, pointing all the vents at me while I buried my nose in a Nancy Drew mystery.
  Making fairy necklaces out of clover.
  Climbing up the mimosa trees, sitting and stripping the leaves.
  Spritzing each other with the water hose.
  Flying kites.
  
  And I ask, what prevents me from doing any of this now?

  Only Ninji may appreciate this, but don't you love the smell of burning leaves in the fall? I did too....so when walking to school in Junior High I would finger shoot a match into piles of leaves raked up along the curb all the way to school....Coming home I could still smell the leaves and see the big black spots in the grass......Plus the city guys did not have to vac them up......oompa
