California Court Affirms Right To Gay Marriage

The reasoning behind the ban on same sex marriages was our previous Prime Minister, little Johnnie Howard, decided the Australian public did not want gay marrriage. He didn't consult the public, just decided he knew and that was that. Not just marriage either, but he blocked the ACT Government from making changes to their legislation that gave gay couples the right to enter a civil union.

The part I find the most ironic is the arguments against gay marriages usually come from those who also claim to believe in a minimalist government, with minimal involvement with the public.

When I speak of minimalist government, I mean less zoning laws, the freedom to start a business without alot of bureaucratic red tape. The freedom to own a business and decide whether to allow smoking or not.

The freedom to ride in my car without a seatbelt if I so choose. I wear mine by the way.

The freedom to park my vehicle in my driveway, the freedom to fly an american flag. The freedom to own a gun.

The government has moved so much into these previous freedoms, this is what I mean when I say minimalist government. Minimalist governement should not be allowed to tamper with the cherished, time honored, sacred, tradition of marriage.

I would think that a minimalist government would not involve itself in telling grown men/women they cannot enjoy the benefits of the tradition of marriage... any more than telling grown men/women they cannot enjoy a ride down the road without a seatbelt on.

They were given civil unions in California, why can't they be happy with that, instead of trying to force a political view on the voters who don't want it ?

    1. What does marriage have to do with forcing a political view.
    2. Remember that nasty little seperate but equal part of US history? Do you believe in rights for all? Or some?

How does that affect anyone? If you're not gay, it makes no difference to you whatsoever.

Everyone has rights, and what has been mentioned earlier the civil rights era issues were a whole other ball game.

    apples and oranges.

Maybe it is because gays are given special treatment in regards to religion.

They are managing to completely thwart a christian concept of marriage, completely against the wishes of the people, the voters, the church goers, and everyone else involved.

We on the other hand can barely win a case against a proven destructive cult. Children are molested, blood is refused, people die, homes are wrecked, and yet they still are legally allowed to continue on.

Where is the justice in this world?

In California if you smoke cigarettes you are practically tarred and feathered, if you smoke poles you are paraded through the streets and celebrated.

    Hi,

Did you know that blacks could not be legally married in the united states until reconstruction started? That was an attack on your sacred tradition of marriage. This is no different JG. It is just a century and a half later.

Your sour grapes argument doesnt hold any water either.
