I can't live another person's life. So this is not a condemnation. This is my own thought processes, that's it.
So many of us can pass. You can pretend to be a gentile if you're a Jew (except in some locker rooms, but then you can always cover).
You can often pretend to be Caucasian even if mixed race - at least, if you have enough of the right look (Michael Jackson doesn't count).
You can generally pretend to be straight if you are gay, espcially if you happen to already be straight-looking, straight-acting (as if that were a "real" distinction).
But what a world we would live in if we were all confidently proclaiming our individuality.
Do we live in that world, the one where it is safe to be ourselves, honored to be honest?
I know we are one step closer to that world when I choose to be recognized for what I am.
I choose to be the change I want in the world.
