    So guns are a safety net so you have an efficient weapon to kill other human beings and governments when the time comes?

    The stats In England show take the weapons away and you get less deaths, Children do die from other things around the house like bleach and chemicals etc and you take steps to ensure safety but many accident emergency rooms show that people do fail occasionally due to human error and failure and the same applies to deadly weapons you only have to forget to lock your gun cuboard once and figures show in America that this does happen or else why do so many children die from gun accidents in America.

    violence and weapons are not the answer.

    america also has the largest incidence of accidental deaths involving children playing with their parents guns

    More children die in the U.S. every year from accidental drownings in swimming pools at private homes.

    Should we give up our swimming pools?

    Have you even looked at the issues in Kalamazoo and Battle Creek? Gun violence is very prevalent there! So I wouldn't say it's uncommon in SW Michigan.

    And Reniaa? We do live in a violent society. SO....I will take steps to PROTECT myself. I'm not going to depend on Law Enforcement to get there in time!!! And when sheep like you are baaaa-ing in panic you'll be HAPPY to see the Sheepdogs that you disdain for having guns show up to save your ass!!!

    Thats just the bonus for me...

    I like machines... firearms are classic examples of form and function... some are nearly 'art'

    Shooting sports over a wide range of ways to improve co-ordination, kill time, have fun and reduce stress... so does weight lifting or running around in ones underwear or riding a bike. Shooting and marksmanship is a legitimate sport... the ethical foundation for another sport called "hunting".

    Licenses taxes and fees make my shooting hobby another source of revenue to my state federal and local tax base. If shooting or guns are immoral maybe the government should refund the dirty money they take from me.

    what the media doesnt tell you is that for every round fired at a body in the US about 10,000,000 safely end up in a rock pit, clay bank, or range backstop.

    I hate to see anyone die from any non natural cause... 5500 child deaths or deaths of anyone else for that matter... If you look at the rounds fired yearly it's statistically pretty probable you wont get shot here accidently or other wise.

    Foul you cry... sorry statistics and numbers are manipulated every day....

    Finally...every gun my fellow collectors, hobbiests and legal gun owners buy is one more gun that off the street. We do the government a service. Until the government builds enough armory space (and gives everyone of us a key for it) we will continue to purchase our own guns... secure them from gang bangers, pay for our own marksmanship training and provide for the common good of out communities.

    We will risk civil and criminal prosecution for any accidental discarge ...just like we buy house and auto insurance to pay for anyother damages we may cause using dangerous things like swimming pools and cars.

    The only reason I carry a gun is because a cop is too heavy to carry around

    When seconds count, the cops are only minutes away.

    You can get shot in Benton Harbor too.... but the rest of the county is way out of sync as far as demographics go.

    165,000 people live in a county that happens to have a town of 9,000 or so that can manage to have several(sometimes dozens) homicides yearly. The rest of the county has leading causes of death like being stomped by a milk cow...run over by tractor or boredom... now and then a kid falls through ice while skating.

    Benton Harbor was a nice town until about 1970... and has always been at least 30 or 40% minority. I am still waiting for someone to tell me why things got so tough there.

    (I have a clue but.... it sounds sarcastic when I write about it)

    What the hell is going on in the USA! You need guns to "protect ourselves from our own government"........WTF!??? Is George Bush really a Lizzard from another planet come to take over the world?......Is the USA run by the Illuminati or Mason Satanists? Why are we having a revolution now?....Oh I know a civil war over gay marriage! The Union say "nah" and the north say "yes please." Sounds so wierd to an Aussie....we think our government are idiots at times but we don't have weapons stashed in the woods in case we have to have a "take over." have a beer and chill out on the beach Mates!

    And "shooting rapists that climb thru ma window" ......more likely you shoot your teenage daughter in the head, while she was sneaking back into the house from the nightclub!

    witness007,

    I really would like to know what you think of the information I posted earlier on this thread, it's not a matter of personal opinion, it's facts that have happened in Australia, not USA, since Australia has implemented gun control.

    OBSERVABLE FACT, AFTER 12 MONTHS OF DATA:

    * Australia-wide, homicides are up 3.2%
    * Australia-wide, assaults are up 8.6%
    * Australia-wide, armed-robberies are up 44% (yes, FORTY-FOUR PERCENT)
    * In the state of Victoria, homicides-with-firearms are up 300%
    * Figures over the previous 25 years show a steady decrease in homicides-with-firearms (changed dramatically in the past 12 months)
    * Figures over the previous 25 years show a steady decrease in armed-robbery-with-firearms (changed dramatically in the past 12 months)
    * There has been a dramatic increase in breakins-and-assaults-of- the-elderly

    I used to be for gun control, for many years. I personally had an incident in my own home where a firearm was shot by my 2 yr old child, that if the bullet had not hit something before it hit me, I might not be here today to type this. The reason it all happened was not the guns fault, Why did my husband put it where a kid could reach it? why was it loaded? Where were the adults? It was a little pearl handle pistol that looked like a toy!

    Police with guns have accidently shot an innocent person, there was just a huge case here in Arkansas, where a state trooper shot and killed a man mistaken him for a murder suspect, but because the innocent person was mentally challenged and could not respond properly to the state trooper he was shot. Not the guns fault.

    We have criminals going round killing people with illegal guns, we have wackos with legal guns killing people. Why ban guns from perfectly sane people?

    I honestly cannot believe that my view on this has changed so dramatically over the last few years.

    Given the stats in Australia, the first year of gun control, confirms for me that taking guns away from people does not lower crime or deaths due to taking away guns.

    Possibly the 500 million dollars spent to collect the guns could be used to educate gun owners better.

    Yes. Government is inherently evil and tyrannical to free men & women.

    Is George Bush really a Lizzard from another planet come to take over the world?......Is the USA run by the Illuminati or Mason Satanists?

    Can you post/argue without resorting to absurdity every time?

    Sounds so wierd to an Aussie....we think our government are idiots at times but we don't have weapons stashed in the woods in case we have to have a "take over." have a beer and chill out on the beach Mates!

    Australia was not founded on freedom. Thats cool. Go have your beer and let somebody else take care of you.

    more likely you shoot your teenage daughter in the head, while she was sneaking back into the house from the nightclub!

    Naw, my daughter would respect me enough to tell me if she was going out to a night club. I'd be a parent. Not a baby sitter.
