Sounds so wierd to an Aussie....we think our government are idiots at times but we don't have weapons stashed in the woods in case we have to have a "take over." have a beer and chill out on the beach Mates!
Wrong...you do have people like that. My wife is Australian and her sister's boyfriend has a huge stash of guns/grenades/other fun stuff to protect himself against the government which he perceives as a threat.
Purplesofa......you suggest that the more guns we have the safer the streets are.....for example you see a bank robbery and Purplesofa the brave citizen pulls out her old faithful gun and starts blasting! Or you walk into a store to buy a milkshake like dirty harry, but the store is being robbed....so you ask someone to "make my day......punk!" BLAM BLAM! I use illustrations to show how friggin crazy these arguements are. Police Acedemy 4 - Citizens on Patrol! It's very rare here to have someone shoot a criminal say breaking into a house...it's more likely an accidental death will occur....the criminal in a hold up will be forced to kill you....in the heat of the moment you use a gun reklessly.
Our crime rate did not go up because we lost our vigilante gun blasting, crime stoppers.....criminals didn't say: "Oh no more Auto Weapons lets have a crime spree."

I find it funny how guns are the big evil in the media and cars are ignored. How many problems would be solved if we got rid of cars? How many deaths do we have every day because of cars? The fact that cars run on petroleum based product we have poor air quality in the cities. Why don't we have a ban on cars? Because it makes a lot of money, so lets talk about guns instead.
Anti-Christ... cars are a necessity for most, and for most guns are not a necessity of life. Yes, in some metropolitan areas public transit is good enough that some go without cars. But the majority of America is not like that.

You have to admit those are pretty scarey scenerios. Even if the numbers are/were exaggerated, they are still staggering. Governments do kill their own people. An invansion of another government to yours or mine, will use force to do it. We as a planet just witnessed this being done in Iraq, live stream into our living rooms. Not disputing as to whether it was a good thing or a bad thing that it was done, but the fact is that is how it was done.
It takes time and circumstances and some research to see things differently about anything we stand for.
I would much rather see a planet where there are no guns in anyway that exist, maybe someday.

Absolutely, that's my point. The system is made a certain way so lets not do any thing that will change the status quo. It is only a necessity because the way things work. Food is a real necessity not cars.
What your saying is if America turns suddenly Fascist/Communist and say a new Hitler/Stalin {Obama as some believe} comes to power and begins killing everyone what will we do then? There is a chance of 1/ 1,50000000000000000000000000000000000000 that this would happen, in a USA democracy......imagine USA congress...:"Today we pass the bill to kill everyone born in Texas.....all those in favour say I"......."everyone except Texas, good, well that law is now passed." It's a totally different world!

Others have already pointed this out, but you seem to be missing it. There are at least a couple flaws with your reasoning. First, not all guns are used to commit crimes. In fact the majority of guns are not. Second, outlawing guns does not keep them from criminals. It only keeps guns from law-abiding citizens who wouldn't use them to commit crimes in the first place.
