The argument of that article boils down to this:

Health Care is too expensive because Corporations are too greedy.

The US Government can make it less expensive by taking control of it, because the Government is never greedy.

If someone is too naive to see the fallacy of that argument, then they are beyond hope.

Mary - most Americans are fed garbage daily by their media/government so they cower in fear each time they are told something is socialist or communist. The media uses those words freely in order to keep them brainwashed..and they don't have the ability apparently to think for themselves on a lot of issues, so the country is doomed. As I said, all this fighting about health care that would help EVERY person in the USA is pathetic when the debt from paying the CEO's on Wall Street still sits at 2 trillion. The only thing that one can see based on those actions for sure is that Americans applaud greed and encourage class warfare which in turns breeds things like more fighting about welfare, education, racism and prejudice. Don't think for a minute that the ruling elite aren't afraid of losing their power should people in the USA become more equal with one another (just one benefit of universal type healthcare) - there might be too many people that actually might want to rise up and demand their rights. Keep em down, make them think their vlaue depends on the car they drive or how big their house is and you can force constant conflict.

As for insurance - one of the radio personalities Thom Hartman spoke about his brothers insurance in Michigan - Blue Cross.

He said his brother was given a medication and had a severe reaction to it. His doctor ordered a blood test to diagnosis the problem and it cost 81.00. The insurance company refused to pay it because it told him that they did not cover 'mental illness or drug abuse'. His brother asked the insurance company ' are you telling me that if I had a reaction to pencillan then, that my medical needs would be denied?'. His brother was told YES. His policy doesn't cover drug abuse and if you have a reaction to a drug, any drug, then it's considered drug abuse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I guess this was one of those little gems that someone doesn't find out about until it happens...think of the billions in profit by using this one part of a benefit package to deny people payment. Luckily it didn't require a major hospital stay, pumping his stomach out, ambulance services - it could have cost him $100,000 for a simple drug reaction that an insurance company tells you is your fault cos of drug abuse.

This is the stupidity and pathetic excuse for a health care industry - for profit - that is allowed to twist and turn every single thing into a denial and a subsequent profit for them. This is the system that people here are protecting....go figure. sammieswife.

Actually, there is a glaring flaw in your overly simplistic argument. I don't think anyone, including the President, has opined that "the Government is never greedy." The idea is that a lower-cost government option would create a check against private medical insurance premiums.

You're right on. Medicare proves it.

So, what it really boils down to is who's greedier?

Obama has said that Medicare will be absolutely broke in another few years - so how about this? Why not put it to a referendum and a massive country wide vote - on paper if you please since we already know that the electric polling stations have been hacked in the past. Why not have every single person over the age of 21 vote on whether or not they want a government health plan? Pretty simple. Maybe the Insurance and Pharma companies could chip in that 1.3 million a day in bribes they are giving to the politicians toward the vote. That way, the people would be speaking. If they vote in a majority it goes through, if it doesn't get the majority votes, it stops now. If it doesn't go through, then I'd support immediately halting all universal care for seniors and children as well because if a majority speaks on universal care then it means that is what the people want.

Additionally, I'm always hearing how bad the Medicare system is in the USA but if it's that bad, then why are the majority of seniors so scared it's going to go away???

I gotta laugh at the stupidity though - even in your house of reprensentatives. Anybody ever hear of a LIVING WILL? I know a lot of people who have them - you know, those papers that you fill out to give you the legal right to determine your care? Well, Obama in his plan wanted to put in place the easy access and ability for all people to get a living will prepared and wanted help for people to make those decisions on their own and wouldn't you know it???? The Republicans opposing it twisted a simple, logical, personal writ into a death notice and have started to tell the elderly and seniors who aren't familiar with the whole concept, that Obama is going to force them to take counselling so they can be euthanized!!! WTF????? That little twist is hitting the airwaves non stop and now all the old folks are spreading the fear like crazy, afraid that Obama is trying to kill them off!! One lady tried to rachet up the fear by reminding people that Obama's granny went into the hospital and never came out...hmmmm....that could apply to a million people, but who thinks that far along when they are being terrorized by their own government into believing such tripe? That's about as twisted as spouting all the nonsense that Obama is letting all those nasty, millions of selfish pregnant women run to abortion willy nilly in his plan..my gawd! you'd think there were 10 million women who were crowding the hospital rooms lining up screaming for abortions....geesh. What insanity. sammieswife.

Medicare is not an economic threat to private insurance.

If Obama's plan didn't threaten insurance companies economically, they wouldn't be coalesced against it.

Actually that's all your are aloud to have. I know of someone who had better and Medicare was forced on him.

He's dead now. So who cares. Obama? yea right.
