snowbird: Therein lies the crux of the matter. God is not bound by our definitions, understandings, or expectations.
Yet according to you, we are bound by your gods definitions, understandings, or expectations. It sound like god is guilty of abusing minors!
Still, as you say, he loves and he hates and generally does what he pleases; the same as most monsters. Fortunately this whole immoral attempt at explaining the desert god of the bible and his selfish motives is as meaningless as debating fairies, pixies, elves and werewolves.
Is that anything like infinite knowledge?
Its better, because its outside the relm of mortal grammer !
:)
This is sort of a non-question issue for my widdle brain.
If you use the Bible as a source of actual information you end up having to project a serpentine interpretation on to the text anyway.
Most of the things we are confused about are caused by the total lack of clarity and not our insignificance.
I'm pretty sure the men who told the bible stories in the first place were winging it.
Ancient stories of great gods and wonders weren't data, ya know.
Imagine asking, "If you shot Achilles with a shotgun--would it hurt as long as you didn't shoot him in the heel?" Silly, huh?
IF God were all-knowing He would know that responsibility follows when we fail to plan for failure.
Giving a sentient creature free-will and expecting them to do you bidding is a plan for disaster.
Human history is certainly disaster. Blaming and punishing are the acts of a NON-PLANNER.
What Architect fails to build in safeguards to prevent disaster? God built Adam out of clay and the human race immediately toppled.
Pointing the finger and heaping on punishments is more the reaction you get from a spoiled child than a Supreme Deity with foreknowledge.
The Calvinists present us with a SOVERIGN GOD who can pretty much plan those disasters in advance and we must fear and respect such Deity no matter how whimsical and terrifying the repercussions.
If that is a Choice I want no part of it. (If there is no choice....then, tough titty anyway.)
Isn't the human imagination omniscient ?
Why do people look for guidance from ancient story tellers
and deny that human ignorance never existed.
Or, you can be like some posters and assert (without anything resembling a coherent, much less compelling, argument) that you can have it both ways...
I assert that there are things about God that are beyond the realm of our understanding.
"Isn't it a miracle?"
Damn straight!

Whoa look at this thread go!
Makes sense though, the biggest issues with God are his supposed omnipotence and omniscience and how believers can relate those things to suffering (permiitted by God?) and free will ( do we really have it?).
