The Jews believed that anyone calling on the name of YHWH would be saved. I won't bother to quote the zillion scriptures on that.
The early Christians believed that anyone who calls on the name of the Lord would be saved.
Paul in the first chapter of Hebrews applies a scripture that uses YHWH to Christ and says this is the lord who will save you.
Therefore...YHWH was "the Lord" or Christ to Paul. I've never heard any Witness in 34 years of studying it intensively ever address that scripture or explain it away.
In fact, although they scrupulously restore "Jehovah" to every place in the Hebrew Scriptures where it was replaced by "Lord" and also in the Greek Scriptures where the writers quote from the Hebrew scriptures, such as Paul does in Hebrews, chapter one....they omit it there...why? Why that one omission? Oh, and look in your large print Bible...it says in the footnotes that "adonai" was substituted there for "Jehovah" in the scripture Paul quotes.
Well, in the older large prints like the one I have it does. God knows what they have in there now...probably changed it like they have edited Watchtower volumes that have conflicting doctrine in them.
Rework the JW teachings from A to Z, and I might be interested again someday. Get rid of the unscriptural homophobia, the unChristian obsession with Jehovah and the rules and rituals of the Jews, the denial of heaven to All who put faith in Christ, the extraneous teachings about dates that come from superstition and pyramidology and 19th century Adventism, and the confusion about the nature of God and Christ, and forbidding of things not forbidden, the cover ups and scandals, the....well, too long a list to spend all night writing.
But then again, why should I bother? I've found something that makes me infinitely happier than being Witness for 34 years ever did.

MM- what twisted 'logic'. You have completely undermined (anti) what Christ taught!
Congratulations!

Since 9/13/2009PS- Jesus has the position ("Voice") of Archangel; he didn't take it away from someone else. There is God, angels/messengers, and man. Jesus is NOT the Almighty, thus is a mighty spirit being...an ANGEL- the greatest of them all (Heb 1:9)
I disagree MJW. Your position here is unscriptural. Jesus speaks with the voice of a messenger [angel=messeger in greek] and Jesus can rightly be said to have proclaimed his father's will. To say he has the position of angel because he spoke in an angels voice is to say that the burning bush was just a burning bush and not God speaking to Moses. The JW faith is based on lies. I'm very sorry, but the only way one could believe all the bs is to be prohibited from reading the truth from accredited, scholarly sources. The whole faith is from a man who didn't like what was taught, so he made up his own faith.
- A founder who was never settled in another faith, but created an organization based on his own beliefs.
- A founder who made a decision that he did not wish to believe in a literal hell, and created a religious organization and doctrine that satisfied his own requirement.
- A founder who had pre-determined doctrines and then claimed that those doctrines were the same as God's word.
- A founder or leadership who claim that they are restoring that which was lost through apostasy. Everyone had become apostate except themselves.
- A founder or leadership who declare that their organization is the only way to God.
- A founder or leadership who say the Bible is corrupt and must be retranslated or rewritten, but cannot provide any proof or verification to back the claim.
- A founder and leadership who claim the Bible cannot be understood by itself, but must be studied in conjunction with the explanation which he or the organization writes.
- A founder and leadership who lie about previous teachings.
- An organization that claims to provide a translation of the Bible, but ignore all scholarship that deny the veracity of their translation, and claim that they have the only correct version. They present a redaction of the Bible instead of a translation.
- An organization that only changes words in the Bible to make them agree with its pre- determined doctrines, but does not change words that do not affect those doctrines.
- A founder or leadership that claims divine authority but presents no credentials verifying that authority.
- A founder and leadership who prophesy falsely.
The Jehovah's Witness who does just a little basic research with an open mind will discover that their beliefs are based on an irrational adherence to doctrines that have no basis in reality, and have no basis in the Bible.
