Clearly, a pedophile is a unique and sick indivdual. The thing with the sex offender registry is that I don't believe all States clarify the crime. A person on the sex offender registry isn't necessarily a pedophile or what most would classify as a sexual deviant. I was 18 and my girlfriend was 16 when we became sexually active ... we have been married now for 24 years ... had our imtimate relationship been found out by vengeful parents, i could have been in a whole lot of trouble and on the sex offender registry for life.
Do you Know of any JW Pedophiles who Currently Go Out in Service ?

That is where the legal definition really fails everyone. Your example is exactly were the problem is. There is a huge difference between a couple teenagers having sex and a 45 year old man and a 15 year old girl doing the same.
AS far as an actual pedophile being allowed to go door to door that's beyond sick. I would think the WBATS would be a little mindful of the monetary repercussions of putting a pedo on a canvasing mission.

Didn't the WTS institute an official policy of not letting jw abusers go door to door in 2002? If so, it would have bearing on any answers before or after that date.
Wasn't Michael Porter photographed (by the Sun newspaper) out in field service AFTER he was 'convicted' in 2007 ?

Mr Flipper - Great topic, this needs to continue to be discussed, especially with so many JW's making such SMUG remarks against the Catholic Church. One of my best friends is an ex-witness and when I filled him in on just a 5-minute primer about the prevelance of abuse in the JW community, his jaw hit the floor...........if they only knew what a whitewashed grave their own religion is!
I know of several who still engage in the ministry - one of them is registered right on the state web site as an offender
I thought that the policy of not allowing pedophiles to go door-to-door was considered "unscriptural" since if you dont go in the field ministry, you technically arent a "Witness" - they always throw out the "but you have been washed clean" scripture to show how a person can turn around.
I thought the present policy was not to let them go by themselves - which would be total BS anyway, since how in the world could it be enforced?

I know of two in the local congregation that I used to go too. They are both listed as Registered Sex Offenders, and both with minors. The first one, his listing on the sex offender list reads as: "Indecent assult". I know for sure that this was with a minor, it was in the local paper and I know who the child is. The second one on the sex offender list, his reads as; "Lewd & Lascivious With a Child Under 16". They both go out in service. The first one was under house arrest for a year, but before his coviction I know for sure he was regular out in service. I'm assuming now that he's served his time he still goes out. He's regular at meetings, I know that. The second one actually came to my Mom's house while I was there.

We had a couple in our hall, and there were several in other halls in the area. Those in my hall had done time in prison, and had raped children on multiple occasions. I was an elder, and read all of the correspondence that came with them when they moved in; I also checked the sexual offender registry. Those in my hall had raped children under 12 years of age, and were VERY regular in the ministry. I know some of the specifics of some of the cases in surrounding halls; also child-rape under 12 at least in some instances.

Good comments and takes by everyone. Been working all night- so I'll respond.
WANNABEFREE- I think your description may be splitting hairs a bit too thin on who is a sex offender or who is not. I mean- in typical society nobody usually questions a 16 year old girl dating an 18 year old guy. Happens all the time. But the problem becomes when ( and this is just my opinion ) when the age differences start becoming like a 25 to 30 or even an older guy trying to pick up on 16 yr.old girls and younger. The bigger the age difference in an adult man going after a minor girl- it gets creepier and creepier. As a JW I dated my former wife when I was 18 and she was 16. I had to wait to marry her when I was 19 going on 20 and she just turned 18 then we got married. But I see a big difference in THAT scenarion- than a 30 something or 40 something year old guy going for a young 15 or 16 year old girl. THAT is where I see the difference.
UPNORTH- So, yeah, we agree on the age thing. And yes- you would think that the WT society would be more concerned about legal ramifications allowing former sex offenders or current child molesters to go out in service. In my opinion : I truly think the WT society is pompous and arrogant enough to be smugly confident in their own high powered attorneys to combat any cases in court. Yes- I think they are THAT full of themselves with pompous arrogance. They just don't care personally what happens to children at all.
MIDWICH CUCKOO- You may be right. I do recall something about Michael Porter being photographed going out in field service AFTER his conviction. If anybody has the link to this article- would you kindly post it on this thread ? Thanks.
LEPERMESSIAH- Exactly. Good point you make. The witnesses are so smug about pointing fingers at the catholic Church and the child abuse problem THEY have - but refuse to acknowledge the same horrid problem in their own ranks. So you know of registered sex offenders going door to door ? I know of about 10 JW's that still live in my original hometown in Southern California who are on the registered sex offender list " Megan's Law ". Whether any still go door to door , or are still witnesses I don't know - I think some are and some aren't from what I was told. And yes you make a good point- Even if the present policy of the WT society states that known child molesters CANNOT work in service by themselves- HOW are they going to enforce it 24/7 ? It would be physically impossible. It would be a better policy NOT to have them go door to door AT ALL.
HAPGOOD- So you know of 2 more registered sex offenders going out in service ? Wow. I'm quite sure there are hundreds if not thousands of Jehovah's Witness former sex offenders knocking on the publics door. One came to your mom's house ? That's creepy. Too bad they can't keep these pervs under house arrest so they don't offend again.
UPLIFTINGMOFO- Hey welcome to the board ! I see it's your first post. Welcome indeed. Wow. It sounds like you had some really deviant abusers in your kingdom hall. So let me ask you a question- Since you were serving as an elder at the time- Did you and the other elders make sure these former child molesters worked with only elders or ministerial servants in service ? Or were they NOT monitored closely and allowed to have free reign to work in service ith whomever they wanted ? Were families warned about these child molesters past criminal behavior ? I'm just curious. Thanks for your response

KARTER- It is incredible when we start counting up the number of how many of these child molesters are actually going out in service talking to people at their doors. Pretty bizarre and scary. Even an ex-branch overseer huh ? Doesn't surprise me- rumor has it there are pedophiles in the governing body also. Nothing surprises me anymore with the scummy dross coming from this cult
