People need to know about these problems with the secrecy.

Secrecy is a tool used to control and manipulate people. It is used to make people afraid. It closes down openness and communication. This is not a loving arrangement nor is it principled. It kills trust and is ultimately destructive.

All who have contributed here today in speaking up against the Pedophile Policy of the Watchtower do so because we do not buy into the propaganda of this organization that they have a higher moral standard and that they are God's only True Organization.

It is time this policy was changed. Pedophilia is a crime and must be dealt with by the police.

I feel the need to point something out here and I could be totally off base and if so then many sorry's to everyone, but our friend WW is usually very cool. It seems to be this issue that really pushes his button. that is almost always a sure sign that it is very personal. He may have some very personal and deeply troubling experiances with the org and its policies on child abuse and he is dealing with it emotionally rather than logically. I would cut him some slack...

My father - an elder my entire life, and P.O. most of that time - also seems to take the issue very personal. Anytime I bring it up, he is EXTREMELY defensive of the WT position. It wouldn't suprise me if he needs to see it as a morally sound policy at this point (in the sense that he may be aware he's made some people's situations much worse).

Maybe policy is something that some JWs like Wrong Way or Limes dad hold on to like a life raft. I knew alot of bethelites that held on to the rules at bethel because it made them feel safe and secure. They wanted to believe that they were in paradise. In fact the GB told us that bethel is exactly like paradise is going to be. At least until we reach perfection.

I pity those that cannot take a step back and objectively look at what they are doing. Even IF this was god's organization, why not strengthen policy and grow so that you can make it MORE effective? What's wrong with innovation? Why can only the men at the top innovate? Why is it that when THEY do it, it's a gift from Jehovah.

Do you know what is sick, too? If they ever do alter the policy on child abuse, they will call it "New Light" and a "gift from Jehovah". Makes me want to vomit. They protect themselves for all these years, pay off victims that could bring potential lawsuites, and then when the heat gets too much they will change and get ALL THE CREDIT for safeguarding our children.
